Welfare is comfortable living and working conditions. Employee welfare means the efforts to make life worth living for workman.

Features of labor welfare measures


Labor welfare includes various facilities, services and amenities provided to workers for improving their health, efficiency, economic betterment and social status. Welfare measures are in addition to regular wages and other economic benefits available to workers due to legal provisions and collective bargaining

Labor welfare schemes are flexible and everchanging. New welfare measures are added to the existing ones from time to time. Welfare measures may be introduced by the employers, government, employees or by any social or charitable agency. The purpose of labor welfare is to bring about the development of the whole personality of the workers to make a better workforce.

Need of the study


To know about the Constitutional provisions at Diesel Locomotives works. To find whether Labor welfare helps in providing good industrial relations. To know about the employees satisfaction towards welfare measures. To find out the facilities entitled by Diesel Locomotives Works.

Objective
To find the effectiveness of employee welfare measures at DLW. To understand how welfare measures improve the motivation of the Employees. To know to various welfare measures provided to employees.

Company Overview
Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW) established in 1961 in collaboration with ALCO, USA in the ancient City of Varanasi . DLW was established to undertake - indigenous manufacture of diesel electric locomotives for meeting increasing transportation needs of Indian Railways. The organization is divided into 9 departments.

The various welfare measures provided to employees are Medical facility Educational facility Housing facility Traveling and pass entitlements Intramural facilities Recreational facility for employees and their children

The employees are quite satisfied with the welfare means provided still there is a scope of improvement in making the employees awareness about its effectiveness. The welfare measures motivates 65.45% of employees. The best way to find out the solution to any problem is by Observing employees behavior Accepting and responding to the suggestion of employees seriously.

Limitation
Findings based on this study cannot be used in other organizations. There are chances of misrepresentation responses. The biased view of the respondent is another cause of the limitation Time is the important limitation

SUGGESTIONS
Management has to improve the quality and adequate items of the food company has to increase the number of spittoons Rest room facility has to be sufficiently provided. Housing facility can be improved. Adequate number of first aid appliances has to be provided
