What is Dyslexia?
a specific learning disability impairs a person's fluency or comprehension accuracy in being able to read difficulty with phonological awareness and decoding affects orthographic coding and rapid naming

Who has it?


Dyslexia appears to be more common in boys than girls. Dyslexia affects people of all ethnic backgrounds A person's native language can play an important role

Symptoms
1.Symptoms in preschoolers Problems with pronunciation. Problems with rhyming words and learning rhymes. Difficulty with learning shapes, colours and how to write their own name. Difficulty with retelling a story in the right order of events.

2.Symptoms in primary school children


Problems with reading a single word. Tries to avoid reading aloud in class. Doesnt like reading books.

Reads below their expected level.

3.Symptoms in high school children

Poor reading.
Difficulties with writing summaries.

Problems with learning a foreign language.


Bad spelling, including different misspellings of the same word in one writing assignment.

4.Symptoms in adults

Doesnt like reading books.

Reading and spelling problems.


Better than average memory. Avoids tasks that involve writing, or else gets someone else to do the writing for them.

Things to remember
