Tourism-Derived Definitions -recognized as a form of special interest tourism, where culture forms the basis of either attracting tourists or motivating people to travel (McIntosh and Goeldner, 1990) -involves interrelationships between people, places, and cultural heritage (Zeppel and Hall, 1991) or temporary movement of people (Richards 1996)

-conceptualized from a business perspective as involving the development and marketing of various sites or attractions for foreign as well as domestic tourists (Goodrich 1997)

Movements of persons essentially for cultural motivations such as study tours, performing arts and cultural tours, travel to festivals and other events, visit to sites and monuments, travel to study nature, folklore or art, and pilgrimages, (WTO 1985)

Visits by persons from outside the host community motivated wholly or in part by interest in the historical, artistic, scientific, or lifestyle/heritage offerings of the community, region, group, or institution (Silberberg 1995)

As a minimum cultural tourism involves experiencing or having contact of differing intensity with the unique social fabric, heritage, and special character of places (Blackwell 1997)

It is also hoped that by experiencing culture the tourist will become educated as well as entertained (VICNET 1996) will have a chance to learn about the community (IDCCA 1997), or will have an opportunity to learn something about the significance of a place an its associations with the local community, its heritage, and a cultural or natural landscape (AHA and TCA 1999)

Participation in any of almost limitless array of activities or experiences Cultural tourism activities: archeological sites, museums, castles, palaces, historical buildings, famous buildings, ruins, art, sculpture, crafts, galleries, festivals, events, music and dance, folk arts, theater, primitive cultures, ethnic communities, churches, cathedrals (Richards 1996)

"Cultural Tourism is a genre of special interest tourism based on the search for and participation in new and deep cultural experiences, whether aesthetic, intellectual, emotional, or psychological."

ARTS TOURISM Visitors gaining exposure to paintings, sculpture, theater and other forms of art

Activities include visit to museums, art galleries, and towns noted for their artists and painters.

EDUCATIONAL TRAVEL There is organized learning, usually made available to students not actively seeking a degree, of not more than one year.

Conferences of business and industrial associations as well as scientific and educational organizations are held on campuses of colleges, universities and other educational institutions

ETHNIC TOURISM Obtain first-hand experience of the cultural practices of other people.

Ex: Tours to the Aeta Community in Subic and to a village in Banga-an Ifugao

FESTIVAL TOURISM Visitors participate in merry making, watch parades, pictures of activities Most are religious in nature, but there are also secular which are primarily held to provide a diversion and boost peoples morale during difficult times
Ex. Kalibos Ati-atihan, Nagas Peafrancia , Lucbans Pahiyas, Cebus Sinulog, And Marinduques Moriones Festival

HERITAGE TOURISM Learning about cultural traditions and artifacts

WTO an immersion in the natural history, human heritage, arts, philosophy and institutions of another region
