Significance of Bayt-Al-Muqaddas The station of Al-Isra and Al-Miraj (the miraculous journey of Mohammed SAW) The second house

se of Allah, built on earth - it has been destroyed and rebuilt many times The place where hundreds of Messengers of Allah are buried The place where many companions are buried A place where miracles were shown by Allah's will A place which Allah Himself calls a 'blessed place' Referred to directly and indirectly, many times in the Holy Quran The place where Angels have descended with Allah's message The only place on earth where all the Messengers of Allah prayed at the same time led by the Mohammed The only Masjid mentioned by name in the Holy Quran apart from the Ka'bah

Zaid Ibn Thabit (ra) reports that the Prophet (SAW) said,

"How blessed is Al-Sham"! The Companions (ra) asked, "Why is that"? The Messenger (SAW) replied, "I see the Angels of Allah spreading their wings over AlSham". Ibn Abbas (ra) added, "And the Prophets lived therein. There is not a single inch in Al-Quds (Jerusalem) where a Prophet has not prayed or an Angel not stood". (Tirmidhi, Ahmad)

(Masjid al-Qiblatain ) Mosque of the two Qiblas) is a mosque in Medina that is historically important for Muslims as the place where the prophet Muhammad (SAW), leading the prayer, is said to have been commanded to change the direction of prayer (qibla) from Jerusalem to Mecca. Thus it uniquely contained two prayer niches (mihrabs).

The best act is to adhere to Allah's commands. Hence, wherever He commands us to face, we should face. Also, since obedience requires implementing Allah's commands, if He commands us every day to face different places, we are His servants and under His disposal, and we face whatever He orders us to face.

Changing the Qiblah

Allah's Messenger was commanded to face Bayt Al-Maqdis and he used to offer prayer towards it in Makkah, between the two corners (of Ka`bah), so that the Ka`bah would be between him and Bayt AlMaqdis. When the Prophet migrated to Al-Madinah, this practice was no longer possible; then Allah commanded him to offer prayer towards Bayt Al-Maqdis, as Ibn Abbas and the majority of the scholars have stated.

The first prayer which he offered (facing the Ka`bah) was the `Asr (Afternoon) prayer in the company of some people.

MODERATION IN ALL THINGS

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) once asked a companion: "(Is it true) that you fast all day and stand in prayer all night?" The companion replied that the report was indeed true. The Prophet then said: "Do not do that! Observe the fast sometimes and also leave (it) at other times. Stand up for prayer at night and also sleep at night. Your body has a right over you, your eyes have a right over you and your wife has a right over you."
- Sahih Al-Bukhari, Volume 7, Hadith 127

ADOPT A MODERATE COURSE The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Do good deeds properly, sincerely and moderately. . .Always adopt a middle, moderate, regular course, whereby you will reach your target (of paradise)."

What are the things we do that come in our way of becoming Ummat e Wasat?
1. Following, instead of Leading.

2. Bringing personal Hasad/Jealousy while picking right people to lead.

3. Forming Allies instead of taking a stand for the Truth 4. Responding to Terror instead of Decency 5. Mistaking Cowardice for Humility as mentioned by Zainib earlier 6. Hiding behind the phrase, Nobody can judge me

In the end, we still have to remember moderation!

Imam Ahmad reported that Abu Sa`id Khudri narrated: Allah's Messenger said: The Prophet would come on the Day of Resurrection with two or more people (his only following!), and his people would also be summoned and asked, `Has he (their Prophet) conveyed (the Message) to you' They would say, `No.' He would be asked, `Have you conveyed (the Message) to your people' He would say, `Yes.' He would be asked, `Who testifies for you' He would say, `Muhammad and his Ummah.' Muhammad and his Ummah would then be summoned and asked, `Has he conveyed (the Message) to his people' They would say, `Yes.' They would be asked, `Who told you that' They would say, `Our Prophet (Muhammad) came to us and told us that the Messengers have conveyed (their Messages).

The Wisdom behind changing the Qiblah

The command to change the Qibla was a test of the faith of those who claimed to be the followers of the Prophet(SAW). It openly demonstrated the distinction between those who were genuinely obedient to Allah and His Messenger(SAW), and those who followed their individual opinion. History records that after this verse had been revealed, those who were weak in their faith, or were just hypocrites, forsook Islam and even accused the Holy Prophet(SAW) of having gone back to the ways of his own people - that is, of the mushrikin. This verse also shows that the Hadith of the Messenger of Allah too, cannot be delinked from the Quran. There is no mention in the Quran about Baytul-Maqdis as the Qiblah. It is instituted by the Hadith alone. But the present verse clearly states at the end that prayers which had been offered, taking the Baytul-Maqdis as the Qiblah, as commanded by the Prophet(SAW)are altogether valid and acceptable to Allah.

Al-Bukhari reported in the explanation of the Ayah (2:143) that Ibn `Umar narrated: While the people were performing the Fajr (Dawn) prayer in the Quba' Mosque, a man came and said, "Qur'an was revealed to the Prophet and he was ordered to face the Ka`bah. Therefore, face the Ka`bah.'' They then faced the Ka`bah. Muslim also recorded it. At-Tirmidhi added that they were performing Ruku` (bowing down in prayer), and then changed the direction (of the Qiblah) to the Ka`bah while still bowing down. Muslim reported this last narration from Anas. These Hadiths all indicate the perfect obedience the Companions had for Allah and His Messenger and their compliance with Allah's commandments, may Allah be pleased with them all. Ibn Kathir

Masjid Quba at dawn

Merits of Masjid Al Quba It is mentioned in the Quran as the mosque founded on piety and devoutness (Masjid alTaqwa): (Verily, the Masjid whose foundation was laid from the first day on Taqwa is more worthy that you stand therein (to pray). In it are men who love to clean and purify themselves. And Allah loves those who make themselves clean and pure.).
Sura (At-Tawba) 9:108

Allah's Messenger saw a woman among the captives who was separated from her child. Whenever she found a boy (infant) among the captives, she would hold him close to her chest, as she was looking for her boy. When she found her child, she embraced him and gave him her breast to nurse. Allah's Messenger said:

(Do you think that this woman would willingly throw her son in the fire) They said, "No, O Messenger of Allah!'' He said, (By Allah! Allah is more merciful with His servants than this woman with her son.)

"Verily, As-Salat (the prayer) prevents from Al-Fahsha' (i.e., great sins of every kind, unlawful sexual intercourse) and Al-Munkar (i.e., disbelief, polytheism, and every kind of evil, wicked deed).'' (Al Ankaboot 29:45) Success is surely achieved by him who purifies himself, And pronounces the name of his Lord, then offers prayer. (Al Ala 87:14-15) Seek help through patience and prayer. It is indeed exacting, but not for those who are humble in their hearts, (Al Baqara 2:45) Guard strictly the Salah, especially the middle Salah. And stand before Allah with obedience. (Al Baqara 2:238) Informing us about the inhabitants of Hell, Allah Most High says: (The people in Hell will be asked): "What caused you to enter Hell-fire?" They will say: "We were not among those who prayed, nor did we feed the needy. We used to engage in vain discourse with the vain-talkers, and we used to deny the Day of Judgment, until there came to us that which is certain (i.e.. Allah's judgment)." Then no intercession by an intercessors will benefit them. (Al-Muddaththir74:42-48)

1. The first thing that will be judged among a persons deeds on the Day of Resurrection is the prayer. If that is in good order, he will pass the test and prosper, and it that is defective, he will fail the test and will be a loser. (Tirmidhi) 2. The metaphor of the five prayers is that of an sizeable flowing river at the door of one of you in which he washes five times every day. [Muslim] 3. Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA) reported that a man asked the Prophet (SAW):

"Messenger of Allah, what action is dearest to Allah Most High?" The Prophet (SAW) replied: "Prayer at its proper time. The one who does not pray has no religion. Prayer is the main pillar of the religion (of Islam)." (Imam Baihaqi)

`Ali bin Abu Talhah related that Ibn `Abbas said: When Allah's Messenger migrated to Al-Madinah, Allah commanded him to face Bayt Al-Maqdis (Jerusalem). The Jews were delighted then. Allah's Messenger faced Jerusalem for over ten months. However, he liked (to offer prayer in the direction of) Prophet Ibrahim's Qiblah (the Ka`bah in Makkah) and used to supplicate to Allah and kept looking up to the sky (awaiting Allah's command in this regard) Ibn Kathir
