The first six decades were devoted by the company to the growth of Cigarettes and Leaf Tobacco businesses. Packaging and Printing Business was setup in 1925. In 1975, the Company launched its Hotels Business with the acquisition of a hotel in Chennai which was rechristened ITC Welcome group Hotel Chola (now renamed My Fortune, Chennai). In 1979, ITC entered the Paperboards Business by promoting ITC Bhadrachalam Paperboards Limited. In 1985, ITC set up Surya Tobacco Co. in Nepal as an Indo-Nepal and British joint venture.
In 1990, ITC acquired Tribeni Tissues Limited , TTD was merged with the Bhadrachalam Paperboards Division to form the Paperboards and Specialty Papers Division in November 2002.
Also in 1990 , ITC setup Agri Business Division for export of agri-commodities. ITC launched line of premium range of notebooks under brand Paperkraft in 2002. Years 2007- 2009 saw the launch of Practical Books, Drawing Books, Geometry Boxes, Pens and Pencils under the Classmate brand. In 2000, ITC spun off its information technology business into a wholly owned subsidiary, ITC Infotech India Limited
ITC also entered the Lifestyle Retailing Business with the Will Sports in 2000
There food business is a successfully blending multiple internal competencies to create new driver for business growth. Aug 2001: introduction with Kitchens of India 2002: entered confectionary and staple segment with Mint-O , candyman and Ashirwad aata. 2003: biscuits segment with Sunfeast 2007: snacks with Bingo 2010: noodles with Yippiee

BENEFITS
By encouraging farmers to take up cultivation of fallow lands, ITC has played a catalytic role in covering over one lakh hectares The green cover created has enabled ITC to achieve a unique distinction of being a carbon positive company for four consecutive years The green cover also helped in generating carbon credits.
The company has helped plant 358 million plants and has also played a role in transforming over one lakh hectares of land, where 70,000 farmers are engaged. The plantations have created an asset value of Rs 1,827 crore in the form of wood.
Work on the expansion project, which entails ramping up the manufacturing capacity from 4 lakh tonnes of paper a year to 6 lakh tonnes a year while keeping a check on the environment. ITC's Soil and Moisture Conservation Programme covers 26,704 hectares of rain fed agricultural land and generates employment during the lean season.

E-Choupals, information centers equipped with a computer connected to the Internet, located in rural farming villages.
A local farmer acting as a sanchalak(coordinator) runs the village e-Choupal, and the computer usually is located in the sanchalaks home.
