EMPLOYEES UNIFORM
Providing uniforms for hotel staff is ensuring proper grooming reflecting the standard creating a good impression

To the employee, it is a status symbol, creating a sense of belonging

ness and thereby boosting morale. Employee plays a crucial role , as it is the people who bring warmth and friendliness into these spaces. Apart from the aesthetic appeal, uniforms are frequently designed to suit the task that is carried out. The uniform must harmonize with the dcor by blending or contrasting and is often required to synergize with the existing theme. The number of sets of uniforms provided is dependent on the nature of the tasks being performed and whether the organization has an on or off-premises laundry. Maintenance and replacement also have to be considered.

JOB DESCRIPTION (Linen Room Attendant)


Responsible for the proper upkeep & required standards of linen and

uniforms To check and ensure that uniforms are properly cleaned and ironed before issue To undertake routine checks on the condition of the Hotel linen and uniforms To ensure proper control on the issue of clean linen and uniforms To check continually with the laundry for his/her requirements To ensure control of inventory both periodic and weekly To maintain proper per stock in circulation To issue uniforms to all Hotel employees To count the soiled uniforms/ linen received and ensure their proper delivery to the laundry To maintain records of linen and uniforms To carry out detailed and thorough checking of all items for mending To adhere to strict grooming and hygiene standards

Check for faulty linen chutes, carts, baskets, washer etc. which might tear linen & Uniform Losses of small pieces of Linen can be avoided by keeping mesh bags at strategic points for passing employees. Keep restrictions on use of linen by inspecting employees locker room or finding them for misuse Laundry should be careful about not to use excessive bleaching powder. The usual amount is 1% bleach per 100lb of linen. It can also damage linen if washed in higher temperature than 150 degree Fahrenheit. It should be exchanged in one to one basis Damp white linen/ Uniform should not lie on concrete or iron Laundry should load washing machine properly. Under loading could beat up linen. Hydro extractors on high speed operation could tear fabrics. Laundry tumblers should be checked regularly for pins, paper clips, etc. that could prick holes into the fabrics. Proper pressure and heat should be kept on all irons as it cause burn stains.

UNIFORM EXCHANGE PROCEDURE


In case of the new employees, uniforms are issued against a specific authorization letter from the Personnel department. For regular employees ensure that they have arrived at stipulated time. Check uniforms for damage. Issue fresh uniforms strictly on one to one basis ensuring that the uniform is of the right size and name if the uniform is specifically tailored for a person. If the soiled uniform is damaged and can be mended warn the employee. If the uniform cannot be mended report the matter to the supervisor. If the employee is chronic offender the amount can be charged to his personnel account

HOW TO ESTABLISH PAR STOCK UNIFORM


It depends on the following :Cloth material Job position and nature of job 4 changes are kept for uniforms changed daily such as stewards coat, utility workers uniform, etc on the following basis.
One change in circulation One change in the laundry One change in the uniform Room One change in the Housekeeping Store.

3 changes are kept for uniforms changed on every alternate days. Terry cotton and woolen uniforms have 2 changes kept as per stock.

LAUNDRY PROCESS
Sorting & Marking When soiled linen or uniforms and guest garment are received & sorted out according to those requiring dry-cleaning and washing. They are further sorted into degrees of spoilage, type of fabric, so that the concentration of detergents can be applied accordingly. Guest garments are marked by indelible ink on tags that are stitched into the garments. Washing/ Drying Sorted garments or are washed or dry-cleaned in the machines provided. Hydro- Extraction/ Tumbler Washed linen or garments contains water twice their weight. The water is squeezed out in hydroextraction. The cloths are removed when the cloth has approximately 25% of water left. This is recommended for effective ironing. Articles like towel, bath mats, etc. which have a woolly texture are tried in the tumblers to retain its fluffiness. Ironing Large clothes like bed sheets, table clothes, pillow cases, etc are ironed with a flat iron also called as a calendar Machine. It works by passing clothes through two cylinders retaining steam with felt covering that gives heat. The cloth is fed by laundry staff called feeders and is received at the other end by folders who folds the linen according to the requirement of the House keeping Department.

TYPES OF IRON USED

of press Hot heat press Where two flat surfaces press the garments. Both surface are hot. Steam Press

Same principle as Hot Heat Press except that the surfaces have perforations through which steam passes.

Shirt Press Special Press to give gents shirts their proper contours and creases specially sleeves, shoulders and collars. Hand Press Common domestic press used for light garments and linen.
