Fashion quotes
• A fashion is merely a form of ugliness so
unbearable that we are compelled to alter it
every six months." — Oscar Wilde

"Fashion is not something that exists in

dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the
street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way
we live, what is happening." - Coco Chanel
Fashion

changing and developing social
and cultural interest in a range

History of fashion

• During the second

millennium Europe's
trade with a world
expanding through
exploration gave rise to
a wealthy urban class
who could improve
their social status
through conspicuous
consumption.
During the 18th
century fashions
became European
and the pace of
change picked up in
the 1780s with the
publication of
French engravings .
Mass Production

Mass production, which

at first allowed the poor
to dress decently, now
holds out to everyone
the dream of dressing

Just For Boys
Lots of boys these days like to wear
sport clothing , baggy pants, long
shorts, or anything they think that is
cool and comfortable.
ACCESSORIES
Just For Girls
Girls want to wear what's only in style.
Girls only want to wear what is cool.
Sometimes girls want to well "show
off", but still don't want to look like a
geek.
ACCESSORIES
Why care about fashion?

Shows your thinking is modern and

flexible.
Fashion has escapist qualities.
Everything you put on sends a
message .
Why are most designer clothes so
outrageous?

These collections are part

marketing and part artistic
expression .By the time they
reach the stores, most looks
are edited by buyers to be
salable.
Who decides what's in?

Designers can
greatly influence
what direction
fashion will go in.
Who influences the
fashions?
• Musicians –
• Actors –
• Madonna
• Salman Khan
• Tom Cruise
• Michael Jackson
• Others-
• Janet Jackson
• Princess Diana
• etc.
But ultimately, it is
you, the consumer, who
will decide what is "in"
when you choose
whether or not to buy
into a trend.
Where are the world's fashion centers?

• New York, Paris and Milan

are considered the major
hubs.
• London, Los Angeles,
Toronto, Hong Kong, Sydney
and Sao Paolo are also host
to excellent designers and
manufacturers.
Today's fashion industry

Fashion today is a
big business.
More people are
involved in the
buying, selling
and production of
clothing than any
other business in
the world.

A global industry
The fashion and textile industry is
active in both imports and exports.
Countries such as Hong Kong, India,
Turkey, Bangladesh, Greece and
Portugal are major importers to the
UK.
Growing markets
Women’s clothing still accounts for
much of the fashion market.
However, because of increasing
fashion consciousness, the menswear
and children wear sectors are also
expanding.
What is fashion anyway?

To some, fashion is an art form. To others, it is

almost a religion.
You can use fashion to express yourself, to
serve as an extension of your personality.
Or you can use fashion to disguise your true
self .
No doubt ,fashion is an art form,
but this country is not at a stage of
displaying that art publicly. And it
may not be in a position to do so
ever.
