One of the most dangerous things that can happen to a child is to kill or torture an animal and get away

with it.

Connection between cruelty against animals and violence against humans in the Philippines
Is unrecognized
Many reported animal cruelty and

human violence are considered by the authorities as separate and unrelated act of crimes.

Fortunately, the animal welfare

organization, educators, child protection and social service agencies, and mental health professionals are starting to recognize that animal abuse is aggressive and an anti-social behavior.
It is said that it is also a reliable predictor of

violence against people after a young abuser grows up.

Nearly all young children go through a stage

of Innocent cruelty

during which they may harm small insects or other small animals in the process of exploring the world and discovering their abilities.

However, most children with proper guidance from parents and teachers, can become sensitive to the fact that animals experience pain and suffering

and thus try to avoid causing such pain.

Some, however, seem to become locked into

a pattern of cruelty that can last a lifetime.

Acts of cruelty to animals are not mere

indications of a minor personal mistake in the abuser; they are symptomatic of a deep mental disturbance.

Research in psychology and criminology

shows that people who commit acts of cruelty to animals dont stop theremany of them move on to their fellow humans.

We may consider some research, facts and findings from other country that will signifies that animal cruelty and human violence has connection:
(1) Murderers ... very often start out by

killing and torturing animals as kids, says Robert K. Ressler, who developed profiles of serial killers for the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
(2) Studies have shown that violent and aggressive criminals are more likely to have abused animals as children than criminals who are considered non-aggressive.

(3) A survey of psychiatric patients who had repeatedly tortured dogs and cats found that all of them had high levels of aggression toward people as well.
(4) According to a New South Wales newspaper, a police study in Australia revealed that 100 percent of sexual homicide offenders examined had a history of animal cruelty.

(5)According to a 1997 study done by the Massachusetts SPCA and Northeastern University, animal abusers are five times more likely to commit violent crimes against people and four times more likely to commit property crimes than are individuals without a history of animal abuse.

(6)Dr. Randall Lockwood, who has a doctorate in psychology and is senior vice president for anticruelty initiatives and training for the American SPCA, states "A kid who is abusive to a pet is quite often acting out violence directly experienced or witnessed in the home," Lockwood said, adding that about one-third of children who are exposed to family violence will act out this violence, often against their own pets.

(7)Others either abuse pets or threaten to abuse them as a way to control an individual."So much of animal cruelty... is really about power or control," Lockwood said. Often, aggression starts with a real or perceived injustice. The person feels powerless and develops a warped sense of self-respect. Eventually they feel strong only by being able to dominate a person or animal. (8) To researchers, a fascination with cruelty to animals is a red flag in the backgrounds of serial killers and rapists.

(9) Examples That Make the Headlines: Notorious Killers

a) Albert DeSalvo (the Boston Strangler), who killed 13 women, trapped dogs and cats and shot arrows at them through boxes in his youth.
b) Jeffrey Dahmer (Serial killer) impaled frogs, cats, and dogs heads on sticks. c) Dennis Rader (*BTK killer), who terrorized people in Kansas, wrote in a chronological account of his childhood that he hanged a dog and a cat.
* BTK BIND them, TORTURE them, KILL them

d) During the trial of convicted sniper Lee Boyd Malvo, a psychology professor testified that the teenager, who killed 10 people with a rifle, had peltedand probably killednumerous cats with marbles from a slingshot when he was about 14.

10) And few classic examples that reported animal cruelty in the Philippines was the:
a) JerzonSenador posted the above picture of his puppy on Facebook, saying that he decided to try hanging his dog on a clothesline because he was bored. The teen boasted that there was no way he would get into trouble for just washing his dog.

b) In the crush video, young Filipina enjoys inflicting pain in animals where they get sexual arousal.

c) During AKF rescue operation we always encounter how cruel this dog trader treats the helpless dogs.
Tying the feet and snout of dogs so tight enough to kill a

dog. Collected and confined the dog on few days in a very small cage without food and water. Bit the dogs head and slash the dogs neck to death.

What we can do???

The community should recognize that abuse to any

living is unacceptable and endangers anyone .

Children should be to taught to care and respect

animals as way of teaching them to respect their fellows as they grow old.
Condemn any form of animal cruelty.
Implement the law by apprehending and filing cases

against the violators.
