POINTERS FOR BOARD EXAMINEES

For Candidates for Graduation in ENGINEERING (also for GRADUATES)

PLANNING FOR THE REAL REVIEW

MAKE A CHECKLIST OF ALL THE SUBJECTS IN ECE STARTING FROM MATHEMATICS TO THE MAJOR SUBJECTS PREPARE A BREAKDOWN OF SUBTOPICS FOR EVERY SUBJECT. (you will be overwhelmed by the enormous topics that you will have to study. Dont worry, it is a part of the process) PREPARE A CHECKLIST OF ALL THE MATERIALS NEEDED FOR THE REVIEW.

PLANNING FOR THE REAL REVIEW

---- Your material checklist must include from the smallest & simplest thing up to the big ones. (example eraser, pencil, scratch paper, binder, ballpen, calculator, books & notebooks up to study table, computer, etc.) COLLECT REVIEW MATERIALS AS MANY AS POSSIBLE FROM DIFFERENT SOURCES. ( Previous notes & books, lectures notes from review centers, board exam problem compilations, lecture notes from other schools, reviewer books, etc.)

FINALLY THE ECE BOARD EXAM October 25-26 (deadline of Application October 6) Kunwari lang.Eto ung last yir

Plan the Strategy on how you will study Each topic

Recall the topics by scanning lecture notes? Read the topics from books? Recall the topics with the help of friends? Solving problems using lecture notes, review notes or reviewer books as your guide? Memorize formulas?

A FRIENDLY ADVICE
The test questions are multiple choice type. Solve the problems carefully and intelligently. The board examination is not right minus wrong.(ibig sabihin pwede hula, atin atin lang. Wag mong ipagsabi. Ooooops, wag kang umasa sa hula. Gamitin mo ang galing mo, mag solve ka!) Take extra care of your answer sheet. Dont crumple, wet, tear off or expose to heat your answer sheet. Dont ever try to cheat or even think of it.

Dont let the examination proctor get mad on you. (Wag kang papansin) Do not announce your plan of taking the board exam. Be resourceful. Ask previous examinees about problems and solutions of past board problems. Try to develop good handwriting. It is never too late. Dont forget to pray. It moves mountain.

STUDYING TECHNIQUES
Select an ideal place of your choice where you can concentrate in studying. Dont overload your brain with too many formulas.(know your kilobytes capacity.

Hehehe, joke lang, terabytes naman).

Memorizing technique using two major senses(sight & hearing)was proven effective. Prepare a systematic schedule for studying Prepare all the materials needed before starting the review.

If you are not in the mood for studying, relax by reading, or playing a musical instrument, or listening to your favorite music, then go back to serious business, REVIEW. File your used scratch paper. You might still need it. Resourcefulness is the key to solve difficult problems. (ask a friend, a teacher, or scan notes, books, etc) Prepare a good illuminated studying table. (Glares and shadows may distract your concentration)

STRATEGIZE YOUR WAY TO THE POT OF GOLD, The ECE License

THE WEEK BEFORE THE BOARD EXAM

Review the checklist at the beginning of each subject. If there are major holes in your preparation, select a few of these areas to work on but dont overload. You cant cram for the board exam

TWO DAYS BEFORE THE BOARD EXAM

Do your last studying. A few practice solving problems, a few definitions and other objective type problems. Thats enough.

THE DAY BEFORE THE BOARD EXAM

Dont study. Prepare the following items: (a) calculator with fresh batteries (b) wristwatch (c) sharpened pencil (d) good brand ball pen (e) eraser (f) admission slip (g) a snack and water. Have a good sleep! Pray before you sleep!

THE MORNING OF THE BOARD EXAM

Eat breakfast. Make it something substantial but not too heavy or greasy. Dont drink coffee if you are not used to it. Read something. Warm up your brain with a newspaper or a magazine. Dont be late! Pray before you leave your home.

DURING THE EXAMINATION

Dont be shaken. If you find your confidence slipping, remind yourself that you are well prepared. You know the structure of the test. You know the instructions. Youve studied for every question type. Even if something goes really wrong, dont panic. Try to stay calm. Call the attention of the proctor for anything that will be of help. Avoid going to the comfort room. One of the PRC guidelines is to attend to your personal needs before the start of the exam. Remember that following you to the CR is an additional work for the proctors

POST EXAMINATION ATTITUDE

AFTER THE EXAMINATION

Once the test is over, put it out of your mind. Thank the Lord about it and leave your fate in HIM. Start thinking more interesting things about your future.

USING CALCULATOR
1. Use a calculator that you are very familiar with. Be sure you know how to use the functions and special features of the model. 2. Remember that you need a scientific calculator. A non-programmable calculator is required. NOTE: - Not all problems are easier to solve using calculator. Sometimes manual calculation is more precise and easier - Remembering common mathematical values(e.g. cos 600 = 0.5, cos 00 =1, = 3.1416, etc) enables you to check instantly whether your calculator malfunctioned or youve pressed the wrong key

OTHER STRATEGIES IN DEALING WITH BOARD PROBLEMS

1. Read the question first before looking at the answer choices 2. Use the backdoor strategy if the answer doesnt come to you 3. Eliminate other choice if it is not the possible answer. 4. Pace yourself. Not too fast, not too slow. 5. Locate quick points if you are running out of time.

POINTS TO PONDER

Good preparation will give you a better chance to pass and will boost your confidence too. Your Department, the EBEST office & the whole TIP are one with your parents dream, for you to become a licensed ECE. Please Dont take the RISK. DONT TAKE THE BOARD EXAM IF YOU ARE NOT READY.
