INTRODUCTION : It is an digital speedometer-odometer which can be

installed with a bike. Digital speedometers are found only in luxury cars and

high-end motor bikes.

The circuit uses an AT89C2051 Microcontroller, a 16x2 LCD display, 4N35 optocoupler, 24C02 EEPROM.

It is better alternative to the mechanical speedometer &

even beginner with min. skill level.

CIRCUIT DIAGRAM :-

CIRCUIT DISCRIPTION :1) Microcontroller :- a 20-pin AT89C2051 microcontroller from ATMEL is used with CISEBased 8051 family. 2) LCD module :- it is used to display the speed & distance traveled , here used a 16x2 alphanumeric LCD based on HD44780 controller. 3) Serial EEPROM :- Electrical Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory. 4) I^2C Bus Protocol :- It is a multimaster bus, it uses serial data line (SDA) & serial clock line (SCL).

CIRCUIT DISCRIPTION :5) Speed Sensor :- It sends a pulse to the microcontroller each time a revolution is made. 6) Optocoupler :- it is used to count the effect of bouncing. 7) Power supply :- the power supply for the circuit is drawn from the vehicles is 12 volt.

CONSTRUCTION :The materials required to build a PVC contraption Reed switch & magnate fixed on the front wheel of motor bike

FEATURES :1) 2) 3) 4) 5) 6) 7) 8) 9) Digital read out. Speed Displayed in km/hr. Distance travelled displayed in km. Readings saved in non-volatile memory. Reliability due to use of the microcontroller. No mechanical wear & tear. Home-brewed speed transducer or sensor. Self reset to zero after completion of 99999.9km. Easy to built & fix on the bike.

APPLICATION :1) It is used in luxury cars & motor bike.

2) It is used to measured speed of the motor bike. 3) It measures speed & quantity of fuel. 4) It is used to counting revolution and speed calculation of cars.

5) It is used for conversion of speed and display the

result.

CONCLUSION
Considering the total requirement and need of society as well as according to cost analysis and project profitability statement it is concluded that the project Microcontroller based SpeedometerCum-Odometer is technically viable, financially feasible and suitable for speed measurement.
