SMART CARD READER

Data capturing machine. Operates smart cards. Can be both internal or external. Finds application in many fields. This is the one used in Delhi metro.

It is one of the applications of embedded systems.

EMBEDDED SYSTEMS
A combination of hardware and software. Designed to meet a specific need. Performs a single set of functions. Uses a controller called an embedded controller or a micro-controller. Finds applications in various fields like Telecom Domestic Medical Office,etc.

PROJECT IDEA
Based on smart card reader used in Delhi metro. For entering the restricted area Bring smart card close to reader. Reader reads the data. Displays it on small screen and the door opens. Travels and reaches the desired station. For exit Repeats the task. Now reader deducts the amount . Displays deducted amount on screen and the door

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT

Combination of smart card + card reader. Used U-shape optocouplers as reader. Used a liquid crystal display to represent the screen. Used a buzzer to represent the door opening. As card is passed through sensors at the entry gate, amount is displayed. Buzzer beeps. As card is now passed through sensors at the exit gate,amount deducted and displayed. Buzzer beeps again.

Connected at port 2 of the microcontroller. An output transducer. A signaling device. Contains an internal oscillator. High voltage rating and current about 25mA. Attached through a transistor. Transistor acts as a driver. Other applications games,household appliances,etc.

LCD
Connected at port 0 of the microcontroller. Used for displaying any information. Small in size and energy efficient. A variable resistor attached. Problem cant be viewed at an angle. Contrast. Other applications CD-panel inside cars,stereos,computer
