Global means Earth , Warming means increase in temperature. Therefore the term Global Warming means increase in temperature of Earth. Our Earth absorbs large quantity of solar energy everyday from the sunrays. Most of this energy is radiated back to the atmosphere by the Earth, and this maintains the heat balance on Earth. But due to certain reasons Earth is not able to radiate appropriate amount of heat due to which temperature is increasing. This is called Global Warming.

1) Greenhouse gases: Various gases like CO2 ,CH4,N2O etc. act as a kind of transparent umbrella allowing sunlight to pass through & trapping the heat below. This phenomenon is known as Greenhouse Effect.

2) Indiscriminate use of Fossil Fuels:After beginning of the industrial revolution in the 1850s ,the use of fossil fuels is accelerating ever since. The human consumption of fossil fuels has elevated greenhouse gas levels substantially. 3) Cement Manufacturing:It is the 3rd largest cause of anthropogenic CO2 emissions.Cement making is responsible for about 2.5% of the total worldwide emission of CO2 from all industrial sources.

4) Deforestation:About 33% of the CO2 emission has been increased in the last year due to change in land use pattern.

1. Increasing Temperature: It is estimated that the Earths mean temperature will rise between 1.5 to 5.5C by 2050 if input greenhouse gases continues to rise at the present rate.

2. Rise in Sea Level:With the increase in temperature ice caps, glaciers will melt due to which seas will expand thus natural disasters like Floods and Tsunamis will be more likely to occur.current models show that an increase in the average temperature of 3C would raise the average global sea level by 0.2-1.5 meters over the next 50-100 years. .

3.

Effects on Human Health: Global warming will lead to change in rainfall pattern in many areas ,thereby affecting the distribution of vector-borne diseases like malaria, filarasis etc.Higher temperature and humidity will increase respiratory and skin diseases.

4. Effects on Agriculture:Soil moisture will decrease and evapo-transpiration will increase , which may drastically affect wheat and maize production. Increase in temperature and humidity will increase pest growth

5. Water Resources: Water cycle is likely to be altered & severity of drought & intensity of floods in various parts of India is likely to grow

6) Forest: About 70% of the forest present in North Eastern region of India have been destroyed due to less rainfall & increasing temperature.

7) Biodiversity: The life cycle of many wild plants & animals are losing synchronisation. 8) Coastal Zone: Due to global warming frequency of cyclones in coastal regions has increased. 7) Desertification: Due to less rainfall many areas are prone to desertification.

Use of Renewable Energy Sources like solar , hydro, wave etc.

Reduction in use of Fossil Fuels like coal , petroleum etc.

Afforestation Concept of Green building should be encouraged
