Parrots are able to see ultraviolet light, which is invisible to humans. They are the only bird species that can use its claws to bring food to its mouth. Most parrots sleep or rest on one foot.

The most talented talking bird: A budgie called Puck officially became known as the bird with the most words, being able to speak over 1,700 words.

Parrots often use their left foot in handling food and in grasping branches and other things (such as toys), while they use the right foot to support their body. It appears that this seems to be based on the same principle as the preferential hand that humans utilize.

Parrots can be found in most of the warm parts of the world, including India, southeast Asia and west Africa. By far the greatest number of parrot species, however, come from Australasia, South America and Central America.

As seeds often have poisons to protect them, parrots are careful to remove seed coats and other fruit parts which are chemically well defended, prior to ingestion. Many species in the Americas, Africa, and Papua New Guinea consume clay which both releases minerals and absorbs toxic compounds from the gut.

There are about 372 species of parrots in 86 types. The largest specie of parrot is the Hyacinth macaw: it grows up to 39 inches (100cm) long and can weigh almost 5 pounds. The smallest parrot is the Buff-faced pygmy parrot. It is only 3.5 inches (9 cm) tall and weighs as little as 0.4oz (11,5g).

The rarest parrot is the Spixs macaw.

They have no vocal cords and the sounds are instead produced by expelling air across the mouth of the bifurcated trachea. By changing the depth and shape of the trachea, the parrot can accomplish different sounds It takes about two months to teach a parrot to talk, or rather, to teach a parrot to imitate human speech parrots dont understand what theyre saying.

The popularity of parrots as pets has led to a thriving and often illegal trade in the birds, and some species are now threatened with extinction. A combination of trapping of wild birds and damage to parrot habitats makes survival difficult or even impossible for some species of parrot.

BODY LANGUAGE

Who said that perrots doesnt blush? People do it to, but in this case they turn red because they want to find a soul mate, they want to begin the proces of mating.

Parrots with ridge show their feelings in a very interesting way. When they have their ridge left back, well they are relaxed. But, for example, If you play with your parrot you will see a change; the parrot will rise his ridge because he is having a great time with you or because she notice a new thing. You should know that a parrot is scared when he has the ridge left back and he stays squat.

Sometimes, that type of birds will ruffle their feathers because they are tense and they want to release that tension, just like people, only that we are using our arms to do that. After a parrot cleans himself he will shake his body to get off the dust. If he doesn t do that he is has a cold or he has another health problem.

Sometimes, a parrot lives his feathers to fall down when he is dancing to atract females but if he does this without this reason he may be ill. That bird will float one wing to suggest frustration or to draw someones attention. He might to that also when he is trying to get off of his old feathers.

If a parrot beak his clash that means that he is preaparing to be aggressive . This behaviour is usually see at the cacadu parrots and at the nymphs. The bird can t be touched or manipulated in this situations.

This type of situation are pretty normal at the house companions, but they can be very unplesant.
