Question 5 How did you attract/address your audience?

Model
I have used a teenage model on the cover of my magazine which my target audience will immediately be able to relate to. Furthermore, I made sure I got shots of him looking directly into the camera in order to give a personalised and approachable feel to the magazine cover. I also edited the background into monochrome to emphasize the models facial features.

Mise en Scene
I thought about clothing and props throughout my magazine. My main model (Richard) is wearing clothes of individual style and they overall present a unique vibe. This is something I considered crucial to the image of my magazine and in order to target my audience. In addition, the use of patterns on certain items of his clothing promote the idea of individual fashion and not being afraid to be a bit different. In addition I decided to have my model playing a guitar to firstly emphasize its a music magazine, but also to display his personality.

Masthead
I attracted my target audience by creating a masthead which could easily be used as a logo and therefore be easily recognised. Its unique shape and quirky design also help it to stand out. I chose to add the red colouring for the same effect. I used a bold font called ONYX and the colours I chose stand out against the white/pale grey background on my cover.

Coverlines
I included artists which my target audience would be attracted to because its the genre of music theyre most interested in. E.g. Noah & the Whale and Of Monsters and Men. I also used the tagline under my masthead Demand for New Music. I felt this was suited because target audience research showed me that my chosen demographic enjoyed sharing new music theyve found with friends/peers the most. I also advertised certain concerts and gigs because research also indicated this demographic regularly attended them.

Colour Scheme
Because I often used monochrome filtering on parts of my photographs I felt it was important to incorporate some colour in my text to prevent the colour scheme from being dull. The main colour Ive carried out through my magazine is red. Its used in my masthead, main coverline and is also featured on both my contents page and double page spread. Other colours Ive used also inject some brightness into the magazine such as yellow and blue. This would also help my magazine to stand out on a magazine shelf.

Addressing my audience
Overall I have used various techniques to attract my audience (aged 16-24) through mise en scene, design and content.
