RENEWABLE ENERGY
Renewable energy is energy that comes from resources which are continually replenished such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, waves and geothermal heat.

What is the NEED for renewable sources of energy???

a. The fossil fuels that we use today will get exhausted after a period of few decades. b. They release harmful greenhouse gases that results in global warming. c. Today not all existing sources provide us with value for money. E.g.:- the gasoline that we use in cars is only utilized to around 25% rest all is wasted in the form of toxic gases. d. This proves that the sources of energy present today do not show our planets brighter future.

SOLAR ENERGY

a. Solar energy is the energy which we get from the sun and it can be in two forms . Either by directly using it to heat a substance or indirectly heating a substance and using the heat afterwards. b. Electricity can also be produced with the help of solar energy by using solar cells.

a. They can surely be the future source of energy. b. They are made of single-crystal silicon and silver which make them expensive.

APPLICATIONS OF SOLAR ENERGY

1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Solar lamps. Street lights. Orbiting Satellite. Calculators. Traffic signal lights. Solar geyser. Solar cooker.

TIDAL ENERGY

a. Tidal energy is a form of hydro electricity that we gets from tides. b. It can be used to produce electricity.

Wave Energy
Wave power devices extract energy directly from the surface motion of ocean waves or from pressure fluctuations below the surface.

OCEAN THERMAL ENERGY

A OTEC plant

a. Ocean thermal energy uses the temperature difference that exists between deep and shallow waters to run a heat engine.

b. As with any heat engine, the greatest efficiency and power is produced with the largest temperature difference.

GEOTHERMAL ENERGY

a. Geothermal energy is generated in the Earth's core. b. Temperatures hotter than the sun's surface are continuously produced inside the Earth by the decay of radioactive particles present in the core of the Earth.

NUCLEAR ENERGY

A nuclear power plant.

a. When the nucleus of a heavy atom is bombarded with light neutrons, they split up and further strike with each other. This splitting up of atoms is called as nuclear fission.
b. This starts a chain reaction in which a large amount of heat and light is produced.

c. Nuclear energy requires the use of radioactive elements such as uranium, plutonium and thorium.

WIND POWER

A wind farm

a. Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into a useful form of energy. b. E.g. such as using wind turbines to make electrical power, windmills for mechanical power, wind pumps for water pumping or drainage, or sails to propel ships.

HYDROPOWER

A Hydropower plant

a. Hydropower or water power is power derived from the energy of falling water, which may be harnessed for useful purposes.

b. Since ancient times, hydropower has been used for irrigation and the operation of various mechanical devices, such as watermills, sawmills, textile mills, dock cranes, domestic lifts and paint making.

BIOMASS

a. Biomass (plant material) is a renewable energy source because the energy it contains comes from the sun. b. Through the process of photosynthesis, plants capture the sun's energy. When the plants are burnt, they release the sun's energy they contain. c. biomass functions as a sort of natural battery for storing solar energy.

CELLULOSIC ETHANOL
Cellulosic ethanol commercialization is the process of building an industry out of methods of turning cellulose-containing organic matter into fuel

BIOFUEL

A BIOFUEL STATION

A biofuel is a type of fuel whose energy is derived from biological carbon fixation. Biofuel include fuels derived from biomass conversion, as well as solid biomass, liquid fuels and various biogases

His organization Avani uses these Himalayan pine needles to generate electricity in Uttarakhand. In fact a few kilos of these slender needles can meet the electricity needs of 50 people. Providing clean energy where the power grid cannot reach. Is ideas like this that change our country for the better.

CONCLUSION
Although all the alternative sources of energy are not totally environment friendly. But they can surely provide us with energy when fossil fuels get exhausted.
