WHAT IS BRICK ?

The bricks are obtained by molding clay in rectangular blocks of uniform size and then drying and burning these blocks.

Advantages :

Brickwork is cheaper than the stonework. Construction method of brickwork is simple.

Disadvantages :

Stonework is stronger than brickwork. Brickwork is less water tight than stonework.

Silica 55% Alumina 30% Iron Oxide 8% Magnesia 5% Lime 1% Organic Matters 1%

BURNING :

For burning 1 lack bricks need 18 tons coal,100 mon chalk,25 mon tires.

QUALITIES OF GOOD BRICKS :


Bricks should be uniform in color, size and shape. They should be sound & compact. Should be neither overburnt or underburnt. Should not change in volume when wetted. Compressive strength should be in the range 5,000 to 8,000 etc.
