Group 5 : Mujianto Masdita Ardhia Mila Ratna D Nita Dwi R Cynthia Mustika S

Introduction
Writing is the representation of language in a textual medium through the use of a set of sign or symbol. In order to be able to select and use appropriate procedures and materials, as well as assess their learners needs and progress, teachers need to be clear regarding the desirable outcomes of a writing program and the processes involved in good writing.

There are 3 models of writing : Writing As a Product

Writing as product is a traditional approach, in which students are encouraged to mimic a model text which is usually presented and analyzed at an early stage. There are the elements of good writing product (for education and also for research) : Language Layout & Organization The layout is relevant to the text-type Relevance to the task & regard for the reader Clarity

2. Writing As a Process Process approaches to writing tend to focus more on the varied classroom activities which promote the development of language use : brainstorming, group discussion, re-writing. In research writing, the report on research based on the model of writing as process include those which examined the effectiveness of the process approach and, more particularly, various intervention strategies such as a conferencing, peer feedback, provision and collaborative work. There are five steps of writing process : Pre-writing Drafting & Writing Sharing & Responding Revising & Editing Publishing

3. Writing As a Social Activity Most people think of writing as a solitary activity something you do alone in a quiet place, away from people. Effective writing, however, tends to go beyond being a solo act, involving elements that define it as a social activity. With very few exceptions, writing is actually a very social act. These are examples of actual social interactions : Composing a diary entry Writing a grocery list are both very solitary undertakings Write an email to a colleague Write an essay / research Write a complaints letter

DEVELOPMENT OF WRITING PEDAGOGY AND RESEARCH

The procedures I will propose for a writing skills program can be seen to form a cycle. Such a view of learning procedures has been proposed by a number of writers and was modified for the teaching of speaking skills. The procedures involved and their sequence are presented in the following diagram :

Awareness Rising Feedback Feedback

CONCLUSION

Writing is a complex skill, and its development involves much more than the accurate use of grammar and a good range of vocabulary. A comprehensive EFL Writing program requires the systematic treatment of a large number of interrelated elements. In this article I presented a cyclical framework of teaching procedures comprising four stages: awareness-raising, support, practice and feedback
