Shawn Eyler & Tyler Kight

Health Care Concerns

Increased access to the uninsured. It will gain the ability to keep health care for persons who lose their job or are changing jobs. It could control the cost of escalating health care.

Americas Current Health Care

America is currently the only developed country in the world that lacks universal health care sponsored by the government. Between 35-40 million (16%) of Americans are without health care insurance and or do not qualify for government assistance. The United States currently has the most expensive health care in the world, lowest life expectancy, highest infant mortality rate, and highest percentage of low birth weights among Canada, Japan, and most European Countries. Approximately 18,000 people die every year in the United States that could be prevented with proper health care.v

Yes to Single Payer Health Care

Everyone will be insured. Allows people to choose their medical physician. Will save the United States billions of dollars. It will reduce drug prices and save approximately $57 Billion. Doctor's will be more careful with prescriptions so because of the government over watch. NHI will provide each hospital a monthly lump sum to cover their expenses and staff.

No to Single Payer Health Care

Run doctors out of business with a potential drop in earnings. Doctor's will be more unwilling to prescribe medicine with the government looking for frauds, malpractice, and wasteful spending. Wait times for surgeries and other operations will be increased and possibly not received because of the wait times. The NHI will only cover so much and then the consumer will be forced to cover the rest, if extra medicine/procedures are needed. Global Budget does not cover maintenance for hospitals or cover for buying or investing in new technology, which could put the US behind in medical advancements.

Lets Talk About It

For the discussion portion of the class you are going to (with the persons beside or near you) have a debate and together decide whether the United States should convert to a single payer health care plan. After everyone has come to a conclusion pick a person to represent your group and share your groups opinion. RULES: Be RESPECTFUL of others opinions, do not interrupt them or dismiss their opinion. When someone is presenting do not talk, listen. Once a group has presented other classmates are allowed to rebuttal to what was said.
