History of Indian Cinema

Dhundiraj Govind Phalke (1870 - 1944) affectionately called Dadasaheb Phalke is considered as the Father of Indian Cinema'. The first full-length story film of Phalke was completed in 1912 and released at the Coronation cinema on April 21, 1913 Alam Ara (Hindi: Urdu) is a 1931 film directed by Ardeshir Irani. It was the first Indiansound film. Alam Ara debuted at the Majestic Cinema in Mumbai (then Bombay) on 14 March 1931.

Since its beginning with the film Raja Harish Chandra (1913), the cinema has remained the most powerful media for mass communication in India. Hindi cinema initially explored issues of caste and culture in films such as Achhut Kanya (1936) and Sujata (1959). Cinema has the ability to combine entertainment with communication of ideas. It has the potential appeal for its audience. It certainly leaves other media far behind in making such an appeal. As in literature, cinema has produced much which touches the innermost layers of the man. It mirrors the episodes in such a manner that leaves an impact on the coming generations. Cinema presents an image of the society in which it is born and the hopes, aspirations, frustration and contradictions present in any given social order.

Critically aclaimed Movies

It is always good and well groomed to see good subjects on cinema. They have a very positive and long-lasting effect on the minds whereas cheap and shabby movies affect the tender minds of audience very badly. There is general feeling that present day crimes are all due to effects of cinema. Besides open and demonstrative subjects throw tarnished messages. They spoil our culture, and society. Cinema and TV badly affect the health of the youngsters. They neglect studies and physical games to spend more time on this entertainment. School-going children and society children fail to make use of good impacts and are influenced by the bad part of the programmes on the air.

Motive of Indian Cinema

The motive is not to discard cinema or TV telecast so easily. The desirable act will be to selective and choosy for programmes. Good movies should be seen by the students. The movies of TV shows should be very much restricted and for a fix time.

Positive Effect of Indian Cinema

Entertainment and amusement Educational values Great commercial value Provides Employement Light on Social Evils like untouchability, casteism, unemployment, curse of widowhood, child labour, child marriage, Domestic Voilence

Indian Culture, which is one of the oldest & richest cultures, is now days posing a serious threat as western culture is establishing its strong base in India and slowly and gradually wiping the Indian culture. It had already made its presence in Metros & now slowly heading towards other parts of India. Man has instincts, different thoughts flow which leave an effect on the minds. The person laughs with the films and tears with them. Scenes of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, a film by Raj Kumar Santoshi and Manoj Goswami makes people national-minded and sentimentally involved in the film show. The fim dialogues are occupying places in our real life.Dialogues of Mugle Azam found place in the normal interaction of people for a long time. People talked and walked like Prithvi Raj, the great king Akbar. In the same way, plays by Agha Hashat and Devdas by Sharat Chandra left a deep impact on the masses. In the same way, film Sholey created an imending effect on so many.

When man comes home after days work, he needs some sort of entertainment and relaxation. Cinema has proved a wonderful and forceful means of entertainment and amusement. The cinema is the cheapest and the most popular form of amusement. Students prefer films to reading books. Thus, cinema exercises a very powerful effect on society. Cinema is a universal teacher. It educates the people in different branches of learning. Our film producers have made very purposeful films to collect public opinion against some of the social evils as dowry system, the labour exploitation. It can teach us natural history, geography, botany, chemistry etc. Documentary films lead us to a street in New York are to a park of Tokyo. These films increase our knowledge, broaden our outlook. Social pictures throw light on social evils as untouchability, casteism, unemployment and the curse of widowhood, etc Cinema has a great commercial value also. It is itself a great industry, Lacs of men and women are directly or indirectly employed in this industry. It is a good and easy means of advertisement. Things and articles can be shown in practical use through the films.

Movies like MotherIndia,Chakde, Sarfarosh, 3 idiots give some messages for society for what a society needs to change. Movies like Sholey, Jab we met or Jhootha hi sahi are a timepass or for just light entertainment. Patriotic movies and songs are gives a good message to the society like Border, Gandhi, Kranti, Saheed Bhagat Singh etc. Movies like Chak de India, Lagaan, helps to support the sports in young peoples.

Realistic Movies like Paan singh tomer, Bandit queen, etc. are tells about the history of our society. Family movies like Ghar dvar, ghar privaar, Swarg, etc. shows the mirror to the society. Mythological movies like Santoshi maa, Ramayan, Hanumaan are very helpful to religions. Social awareness movies like Gangajal, Shootout at Lokhandwala,26/11 etc are spread awareness to the society.

Negative Effect of Indian Cinema

Westernization Voilance Vulgarity, Sex, Nudity, Rape, Harrasement Moral Discrimination Abusive Language Change in Dressing Women presents as a Product Misusing cinema for making profits. Smoking, Drinking etc. Encourage to Crime, Theft, Murder etc.

Bad films leave a very vitiating effect on the minds of youth. They give rise to different kinds of crimes. The vulgar obscene pictures should not be allowed to be exhibited. They cause morality in society. Westernization has greatly effected our traditions, customs, our family and our respect and love for others. The concept of joint families is fastly decreasing every one wants to remain aloof from others. Westernization has given rise to single families. Marriages are fastly breaking

The directors are making movies only for profit and money. We watch, what they want to show. Voilence & abuse are increasing day by day . Films like Delhi Belly, Social matters are not shows in these movies. Religious, mythical, family movies are made by very few directors. Educational, Childrens movies are also very few made. The main motive is make money. Change in lifestyle and fashion.

Movies like Murder, Hisss has no point of positive impact on minds of youth. Flims like Dhoom where in they have shown that speed is everything, is causing an serious impression on youth.

Conclusion
There shouldn't be any sort of censoring outside the minds of people. Censoring should happen within the minds of youth. Watch everything, see good and bad and decide ourselves what we need. I one watches a movie and turns a maoist inspired by that he can't blamed. He has listened to his heart. That is a lot better than leading our "normal" lives. So my suggestion is to watch movies of all languages and all genres, widen the horizon of our mind, think freely. Others can fetter only our actions not thoughts.
