Born

in a kampung in Chemor,Perak. Had his early education in Sek Melayu Chemor. Secondary school : Sek Anderson, Ipoh (the best English school at that time) In 1946, he formed Persatuan Pelajar Pelajar Melayu Insaf (PERMI) in Perak. He was offered place in Raffles College in 1947. In 1948, he formed Gabungan Pelajar

was offered a place in University Malaya, Singapore. While at there, he became interested in the teaching profession. Therefore, he became a temporary teacher at the Anglo-Malay Night School from 1949 until 1951. He active back in GPMS during 1950 as he was appointed to be its head. In 1951, he returned back to teach at the Sultan Yusuff English School, Batu Gajah

was transferred to Anderson School, Ipoh in 1952. July 1952, he went to further his studies in education at Education Institute, University of London. He returned to Malaysia and be a lecturer at the Sultan Idris Teaching Training College in Tanjung Malim. At the age of 36, he was appointed the Selangor Chief Education Officer, and then Malaysian Chief Education Advisor.

Besides,

he was a member of the Senate in University Malaya, Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, Malayan Historical Society. Aminuddin Baki died of heart attack in 1965.

One of our eminent educationists ~famous for his literary works

Born

in Kg Pulau Betong, Balik Pulau in Penang in 1934. Begin primary education at the Sekolah Melayu Balik Pulau and then in Sekolah Melayu Kuala Ketil, Semiling amd Gurun in Kedah. After end of Secong World War, he continued his schooling in Sekolah Melayu Sebarang Perak, Kedah until Standard Four. He got the best Standard Six examination results for the whole Kedah state in Sekolah Melayu Sungai Korok Lama.

He underwent teacher training at the Sultan Idris Teacher Training College in Tanjong Malim from 1951 until 1954. In 1956, he registered to sit for Lower Certificate of Examination (LCE) at the Kedah State Education Department. He obtained his Malaysian Certificate of Education (MCE) in 1957. Then he went and study at the Language College, Johor Bahru.

Between 1961 1964, he furthered studies in Universiti Malaya specializing in arts. His Master Degree was in education. He was conferred Doctor of Philosophy by Stanford University, California in the United States in 1972. He became as a teacher trainee in Sekolah Melayu Gunung, Kedah in 1950. After complete his training at the Sultan Idris Teacher Training College in Tanjung Malim, he returned to teach in Kedah.

He became a National Language teacher at Sultan Abdul Hamid College in 1957. He worked as an assistant lecturer at the Day Training College from 1958 until 1959. He continued his contributions as a lecturer from 1964 until 1969 at the Language Teacher Training College Lembah Pantai in Kuala Lumpur. In 1970, he joined University Malaya as assistant lecturer at the Education Faculty before being appointed as lecturer in 1969.

Starting April 1974, Awang was the Dean of the Education Faculty, University Malaya until 1 September 1978 when he was appointed Director of Institut Teknologi MARA. In July 1980, he became the Vice Chancelor of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

First literary work is a poem which was being published in Majalah Guru in 1954. Amongst some of his works are as the following:

In recent times, he is concentrating more on non literary works and education and drama.

These educationists were personally involved in the field of education. They were totally committed to the implementation of the education system and their contributions can be seen in the form of writings, research and so on. Their academic sharing is very valuable for the improvement of the education system.
