can be mapped to the 8 intelligent Digital Inputs. 5 Intelligent Digital Outputs are provided onboard the drive to map upto 5 different drive function simultaneously. On-board Digital Input to command the drive to rotate the Motor in forward direction. SJ700 has a separate Digital output signal which can be used to monitor various drives parameters (Output voltage, output frequency, Torque output, output current etc.) in higher level PLC/SCADA system in PWM mode. SJ700 drives have 2 on-board Digital outputs for Alarm monitoring in the Drives. These outputs are relay-contact based.

Hitachi LV drives
Position Control- Absolute Position control

SJ700 Drives provide capability to move a load between 2 fixed positions in space. The SJ700 drive with positioning functionality moves the load between different fixed points in space with defined acceleration/ Deceleration ramps and target speed. Positioning functionality is enabled on the SJ700 drives using an add-on option Feedback card (SJ-FB). Encoder to provide position feedback is wired into this optional feedback card.

Hitachi LV drives
Position Control- Multi-stage Position switching
SJ700 drives with position control functionality provide functionality to switch between multiple positions references on the fly based on on-board drives I/O. Up to 7 different position references can be configured and the SJ700 drives can select either of these positions based on combination of I/O signals. Customized delay times can be programmed in the SJ700 drive with positioning functionality to provide time-delays between different absolute position moves.

Hitachi LV drives
Position Control- Zero-Return Operation
SJ700 drives provide functionality to position the motor to align with the zero position of the encoder. This operation is also known as Homing operation. Typically after power up of the SJ700 drive this operation is usually done to position the motor to a known start position. Multiple options are provided in the SJ700 drive to carry out this operation.

Hitachi LV drives
Position Control- Pulse Train Position Control Mode
SJ700 drives provide capability to position the motor/load based on position
commands generated from Pulse train input signals in to the drive. SJ700 Drives can accept pulse train inputs in the drive using the onboard intelligent I/O terminals. No additional hardware is required for this. The SJ700 drive calculates the Frequency/Speed command for the drive based on the input pulse train parameters and the encoder feedback. Multiple modes are provided to detect position deviation based on pulse train input signal in to the drive.

This functionality provides speed synchronization between multiple inverters

and motors in 1:1 speed ratio.

Hitachi LV drives
Position Control- Electronic Gearing Function
SJ700 Drives provide capability to synchronize speeds to multiple motors
driven by multiple inverters. Using this functionality users can synchronize speeds between multiple motorinverter sets in any speed ratio depending on application needs. This functionality is enabled in the SJ700 drives only when optional add-on Feedback card (SJ-FB) is connected to the drive.

Hitachi LV drives
Position Control- Switching between Speed and Position Modes SJ700 Drives provide capability to switch between Speed and Position control
modes dynamically on the fly. This feature allows users to switch between speed control and position control seamlessly without any jerk or speed bumps on the motor.

Hitachi LV drives
Speed/Torque Control Modes
V/F Control Mode Sensorless Vector Control Closed-loop Vector control

Hitachi LV drives
Speed/Torque Control - V/F Control Mode
V/F control on the SJ 700 series drives provides basic control of output voltage in relation to the desired/ target frequencies of the motor. V/F control mode on the SJ 700 drives provide constant torque to the motor once the motor reaches the base frequency RPM. In this mode of control the drive output torque slowly ramps up to 100% rated torque until motor reaches base frequency RPM.

Hitachi LV drives
Speed/Torque Control - V/F Control Mode
SJ 700 series drives also provide the capability to allows users customize
relationships between Voltage/ Torque and Frequency of motor. This mode allows users to have different torque characteristics at different motor RPM to meet the needs of the application.

Hitachi LV drives
Speed/Torque Control - Vector Control
Vector control mode of the drive controls directly controls motor torque in relation with speed of the motor. Provides high torque outputs at very low Motor RPMs (0.3 Hz. range) Control algorithms to maintain nearly constant torque throughout speed range of the motor. Extremely high accuracy speed regulation with and without need of an external speed sensor or encoder. Sensorless- +/- 0.5 % Sensor based- +/- 0.1 %

Hitachi LV drives

Hitachi LV drives
Speed Control- Jump Frequencies Function
Certain machines or equipments like Fans, compressors, pumps etc. exhibit
resonance when rotated at certain frequencies.

Such resonant behaviour can cause mechanical damage to the machines or

equipment. SJ 700 Series drives provides capabilities to skip around or jump around such frequencies to avoid resonant effects on the machines or equipments.

Hitachi LV drives
Speed Control- Multi-speed Select Function
SJ 700 series drives have capability to store up to 16 different speed settings in the drive. SJ 700 series drives have up to 8 intelligent input terminals onboard the drive which can be used for various drive functions. Out of the 8 intelligent input terminals, up to 4 input terminals can be used to select the speed reference for the drives based on the combination of the 4 inputs.

Hitachi LV drives
Speed Control Long Acceleration and Deceleration times
SJ 700 series drives have capability to have Long acceleration and deceleration times i.e. Up to 3600 Sec. Long Acceleration and Deceleration times are useful in applications where large and heavy loads are driven to prevent mechanical damage to machines/ equipments.

Hitachi LV drives
Speed Control- Multi-stage Acceleration and Deceleration
SJ 700 series drives provide multiple acceleration and deceleration rates to
prevent DC bus overloads during rapid acceleration and deceleration profiles. SJ 700 series drives have up to 8 inputs on board which can be used for many functions in the drive. Multiple acceleration and deceleration rates are selectable based on Digital Input signals in drive.

Hitachi LV drives
Energy- Saver mode
SJ700 drive can run with reduced inverter output when Energy-saving mode is
selected to save energy. This mode is applicable for applications which are running at constant speeds like Fans, Pumps and any other loads where there is little requirement of Torque. Using the Energy saver mode in SJ700 drives, response and accuracy of the drive can be tuned to meet the application requirements.

Hitachi LV drives
Flying Start
SJ700 Drives provide functionality to restart motors after a power failure to set
frequency from non-zero motor speed. This functionality is very useful for applications that have long acceleration/deceleration times and it takes very long time for the motor to reach full speed after power is restored or fault conditions are resolved.

Hitachi LV drives

Bypass Transfer
SJ700 series drives provides capabilities to transfer motor control between

commercial power source and Drive control. In many applications with SJ700 drive motors can be started under commercial power source and as soon as the motor reaches a certain speed the motor control can be synchronously transferred to the SJ 700 drive. This capability reduces the power required from the drive to accelerate the motor and reduces the need to over-size the drive.
e.g. A motor may require 55 KW to start but only 15 KW to run at constant speed. In this case, an inverter of 15 KW can be used to run the motor at constant speed and the motor can be started using commercial power source.

Hitachi LV drives

PID Control
SJ700 series drives provide in-built PID control for the purpose of varying speed of the SJ700 drives to control external process variables like flow, pressure, temperature, humidity etc. External process parameters like flow, pressure, temperature etc. are input into the drive using onboard Analog I/O in the drive. The PID operation in the drive calculates the required output frequency for the drive to control the process parameter (temperature, pressure, flow etc.) at the desired set-point value.

Hitachi LV drives

Two-stage PID control

In many applications there is need to cascade multiple inverters to be able to control the required process parameters like flow, temperature etc. SJ 700 drives provide special control algorithms to synchronize PID control loops between multiple inverters to precisely control the process parameters like flow, temperature, pressure etc. During abnormal conditions when master inverter is not enough to control the process parameters, SJ700 inverter can trigger an output to start the secondary slave inverter for controlling the process parameters. As soon as normal conditions return and the cascade output from the master inverter goes off, the slave inverters shuts off to conserve energy.

Hitachi LV drives
High torque Multi-motor Control
SJ 700 series drives provides capability to Sensorless Vector control capabilities for up to 2 motors connected in series using a single Inverter. Provides high Torque control at extremely low speeds of the motors. This application feature is ideal for applications where precise load sharing is required between 2 motors driving a common mechanical load.

Hitachi LV drives

Control Gain switching (Droop function)

The Control Gain switching function in the SJ 700 series drives allows the drive to switch between different Speed loop gain sets on the fly. This feature allows users to switch between PI (Proportional- Integral) gain set and P (Proportional) gain set in the speed loop of the SJ700 drives on the fly. Selection of P (Proportional) gain set in the speed loop using this function introduces speed error (droop error) in speed of the drive which is proportional to the P (Proportional) gain set.
Introduces speed changes in the drive proportional to Droop %.

The Droop % is inversely proportional to the P (Proportional ) gain set of the drive.
Droop (%) = 10/ Kp; Where Kp = Proportional (P) gain set value

This function is very useful for applications where Speed balancing between multiple
motors driving a common connected load is required.

Hitachi LV drives
External Mechanical Brake Control
SJ 700 series drives provide capabilities to control external mechanical brakes using Drive inputs and outputs. Multiple options are provided to configure the behaviour of external brake control to meet the application needs.
Brake wait times for release, acceleration, stopping Brake frequency etc.

Capability to directly interlock mechanical brake control function in the drive directly with confirmation signals coming from external brake system.
Brake release and engage confirmation signals.

Ideal application feature for elevator control applications

Hitachi LV drives
Torque Control
SJ700 Drive provides capability to operate motor in Torque control mode by
directly controlling torque. Provides basic speed regulation when the measured speed error goes out of limit. Control the torque output to the motor by providing positive and negative torque limits. Provides torque bias capabilities to provide torque boost under certain conditions. Provides precise tension control for Winder/ Re-winder and various tension control applications in printing, textiles etc. industries.
