OSI ( Open System Interconnection)

OSI model is developed by International

Standards Organization(ISO) in 1982. The OSI model is a concept that describes how data communication should take place in the network. OSI is a reference model because its purpose is to guide product implementers so that their product will consistently work with other product.

OSI ( Open System Interconnection)

All network, based on a theoretical model called the

OSI model. Its divides network into seven layer. Some protocols are used at each layer.

Types of layer : 7. application layer 6. presentation layer 5. Session layer 4. transport layer 3. network layer 2. data link layer 1. physical layer

OSI Models Data Transformation Scheme

1. Physical Layer
The physical layer provides the electrical and

mechanical interface to the network media. Its ability to transport a stream of serial data bits between two communicating system. Data transferred in form of bits. Physical layer consists of simply the hardware, wire, sockets, signal generator etc.

2.Data Link Layer

Data link layer transfers data between physical layer

and network layer. This layer grouped bits inform of frame. Its primary function is to prevent data corruption within the physical layer. Data link layer divided in to two parts 1. Logical Link Control (LLC) 2. Medium Access control (MAC)

3.Network Layer
Network layer forms individual packets from data

supplied by the data link layer. Network layer routes the data in right direction to right destination on out going transmission and receiving incoming transmission at the packet level. Network layer also handle network traffic. It deliver packets from a node on network to another node.

4.Transport Layer
It is responsible for constructing stream of data packets ,sending and checking for correct delivery . This layer manage end to end control and checking . It ensures complete data transfer The transport layer ensures data is successfully send and received between two end nodes. error

5.SESSION LAYER
Session layer negotiates connection between application on different host computers. This layer transform data packaged for network transmission into application data. Its determine one way or two way communication and manage between both parties.

6.Presentation Layer
Presentation layer is usually part of operating system .
This layer defines how the system provides files and services in a uniform way to application. Presentation layer convert incoming and outgoing data from one presentation format

7. Application Layer
Application layer provides

network services directly to the user application This layer is said to be closest to the users. This layer provide interface between software running in a computer and the network
