2 To identify human behaviours which helps the environment. 2.1 Identify two environmental issue which is relevant to your lives. 2.2 Identify the effects that these issues have on your lives. 3.1 Identify an activity that you can carry out to improve the
This has become a growing concern for nations all over the world. Years of thoughtless exploitation of nature by man has resulted in putting even our own survival at stake.
Activity one:
Split into pairs, create spider grams showing how you think:
1.1 Human behaviours which harms the environment 1.2 Human behaviours which helps the environment.
What is Climate Change Climate change is a change in long-term weather patterns. They can become warmer or colder. Annual amounts of rainfall or snowfall can increase or decrease.
Climate change causes extinction of species, and pollution of lifesupporting air and water One of the reasons why our climate is changing is because man-made chemicals are being released in the atmosphere. Some toxins are absorbed down and reach the ground water and pollute it to the extent that it can't be used by animals/human beings for drinking or cooking.
Many of the world's leading climate scientists think that things people do are helping to make the Earth warmer.
Once a week the bin lorry comes to your house to empty your wheelie bin. The bin lorry takes all the rubbish to the landfill site. The landfill site is a big hole in the ground, and all the rubbish in the big lorry gets dumped into it.
The problem is, all our landfill sites are getting fuller and fuller, and soon we will need some new ones. Landfills are ugly, smelly and dangerous and contributing to climate change. Also, it t wouldn't be very nice if a new landfill site was opened near your house, would it??!
If we all stop wasting food that could have been eaten, the benefit to the planet would be the same as taking 1 in 5 cars off the road!
The amount of rubbish is increasing and costing more to get rid of, which you will have to fund through your taxes!
Each person produces 100 bags of rubbish every year & it's increasing!
Landfills are usually holes left over from quarries. We dont have to dig new holes.
Landfill is a cheap and easy option! Some of the waste will take hundreds, even thousands of years to rot away.
Landfill produces a type of gas called methane which can be explosive and damages the environment.
I dont want to live near a landfill, they are dirty, smelly and noisy.

Clean Energy
To successfully combat climate change, people will have to switch from getting most of their energy from burning fossil fuels to getting most of their energy from a wide variety of clean energy sources.
Use Less Energy Power down. Did you know that some appliances and electronics plugged into an outlet still use power, even when they're turned off? Unplug energy vampires like video game consoles, cell phone chargers, and MP3 players whenever you can. Or consider buying a smart power strip,
which automatically cuts off power when you turn off an appliance.
Travel Green Cars, trucks, airplanes, and other kinds of vehicles are responsible for about onethird of the greenhouse gas emissions. Smart transportation choices can make a big impact on reducing emissions. Here are some ways people can help their environment.
Walk, bike, skateboard, rollerblade, or take a bus to school. Give the car a break. Family could to make one big trip to run all their errands at once, instead of making lots of small trips. Sharing rides with others, and use public transportation like buses or trains whenever they can. Use buying power When it's time to buy a new car, choose one that's fuelefficient or electric. Using less gas, reduce emissions, and save money. Don't be idle. Running the engine burns fuel, running idle, not only wastes gasoline, but also produces greenhouse gases and other kinds of air pollution,
Reduce Waste
Most people don't realize that reducing, reusing, and recycling can help slow climate change. How? To begin with, every product has a life cycle, and every stepfrom manufacturing to disposalleads to greenhouse gas emissions. Reducing, reusing, and recycling means you buy (and throw away) less stuff, and that helps reduce the amount of greenhouse gases we're adding to the atmosphere.
