This is the description of how X started

X has its origins in bootlegging during prohibition, when

drivers ran bootleg whiskey made in Appalachia. Bootleggers
needed to distribute their illicit products, and they typically
used small, fast vehicles to better evade the police. Many of
the drivers would modify their cars for speed and handling, as
well as increased cargo capacity, and some of them came to
love the fast-paced driving down twisty mountain roads. One
of the main 'strips' in Knoxville Tennessee, had its beginning
as a Mecca for aspiring bootlegging drivers.

The first appearance of the word is from 1784 and means an odd person.
This sense survives today in the word _______. It later acquired a meaning
of to make fun of, or to mock. How it acquired its current meaning of a test
is unknown, but that sense did not appear until 1867. ____ as a test could be
a corruption of the Latin ___ __, meaning "Who are you?". In any case it is
probably from the same root as question and inquisitive.

An anecdote says that in 1791 a Dublin theater owner named James Daly
made a bet that he could introduce a word into the language within 24
hours. He then went out and hired a group of street urchins to write the
word ____, which was a nonsense word, on walls around the city of Dublin.
Within a day, the word was common currency and had acquired a meaning
(since no one knew what it meant, everyone thought it was some sort of
test) and Daly had some extra cash in his pocket. However, there is no
evidence to support the story, and the term was already in use before the
alleged bet.

David Gilmour recently said:
"In my view, all the greatest X moments are the ones where he
is in full flow. No-one can replace X - he was my musical
partner and my friend." He added: "In the welter of
arguments, X's enormous input was frequently forgotten. He
was gentle, unassuming and private but his soulful voice and

feelings in words, but I loved him and will miss him
enormously. I have never played with anyone quite like him."

take Syracuse by surprise. This time he was not even aware
