WHAT IS THE NEED FOR GREEN SCHOOL


It is an attempt to create a society of motivated citizens, committed to the conservation,

preservation and protection of the environment


and striving towards a life in perfect harmony with nature.

Launching of Green School


Green School was launched on 21 December 2009. Core group formed consisting of 6 green teachers across the school. Green Warriors are formed from among the students.

Initiative taken by DPS, Bopal, Ahmedabad


Green School drive is an environment based initiative taken by Delhi Public School, Bopal, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, with a purpose of bringing an awareness about environmental issues and making a community that is environmentally responsible. DPS Bopal Ahmedabad have joined forces with Green Contributor, an organization based in Canada involved in Global Environmental initiatives since September 2010.

Green Contributor
This association has helped DPS students and teachers to be part of many environmental and research programs and also providing

opportunities to involve the students and the teachers in the projects


to travel to North America and Africa. Green Contributor offers opportunities for students to participate in environmental research based projects and activities where the students are challenged to take action in addressing real problems, find solutions that can be

implemented locally and globally, as well as address the environmenta


sustainability component established under the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.

Green Initiatives
Core group formed consisting of 6 green teachers across the school. Green Warriors are formed from among the students. The school mascot, Yali adopted a Green approach The campus was declared a green zone. Green was adopted as the color code for the staff on Wednesday Use of paper reduced. A practice of presenting a sapling in place of a bouquet was established.

Global Leaders Journey to USA, 2013


A group of 37 of students from DPS, Bopal travelled to USA, for an educational trip, during May 7 - 23, 2013 under the Green Contributors' Global Leaders Journey Programme. Visits & interaction with students & teachers of some of the Prestigious Institutes & Universities of USA viz., Harvard and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Worlds Biggest Science Center, California Science Centre, Cape Cod Academy School, Boston, Diamond Community School at Palm Bay, Florida, Moultrie Middle School at Mt. Pleasant. Visit to Water Mission International. Certificate Astronauts Training Program at NASA, Florida. Lunch with a veteran Astronaut at NASA, Florida. Visit to United Nations Assembly. Presentations by students on water project and Green School Drive in schools of US. Performances showcasing the cultural richness of our country through few Cultural Progammes.

GLOBAL LEADERSHIP JOURNEY, 2012


A group of 37 of students from DPS, Bopal travelled to USA, for an educational trip, during April 30 - May 17, under the Green Contributors' Global Leaders Journey Program. The trip was aimed at sharing their own environmental project works as well as creating an awareness amongst its students, about Local and Global Environment concerns in the US Schools including their simple and easily adoptable solutions. Tours for students involve encountering environmental programs where they interact with experts, researchers, high-ranking delegates, professionals, leaders and decision makers.

COMMUNITY WORK, GLOBALLY

CHARITY @ ZAMBIA
A group of high school students from DPS and Calorx Prerna Bopal, Ahmedabad visited Zambia and Kenya from May 7 to May 16, 2010 as part of Green Contributor s environmental and educational exchange program and also got an opportunity to meet with representatives from UNICEF, and the Indian High Commission in Lusaka, Zambia. SIX BSNL PENTA TABLETS were donated to the underprivileged children of a school in Kapila Village, Zambia. The fund was raised by Green Warriors by putting up food stalls on 5th September, 2012 and 21st December, 2012.

A group of 8 students along with 1 teacher had the privilege to perform at the Shelter from Storm Concert at BOSTON.
DPS was the only school representing INDIA along with six other ASIAN schools. More than 200 high schools from cape Cod performed in the concert.

April 21, 2013

A Walkathon was organized by TOI to mark the world Heritage Day. The event was followed by Walkathon and then a soulful street play was presented. Around 25 students from our school and many parents also participated in the Walkathon.

TERI - BEACON DPS BOPAL NODAL SCHOOL


PHASE I: As a part of Green School Drive in collaboration with TERI, The Energy Resource Institute India, a full day workshop on BEACON Building Energy Awareness on Conservation was organized on 14th February, 2012 at DPS Bopal for the Teachers of Gujarat. 45 teachers of various districts of Gujarat attended the workshop. PHASE II : (September 15, 2012), at Ankit Vidyalaya, Kalol, Gandhinagar, TERI conducted a sensitization workshop for students, teachers and parents of the Nodal Schools of Ahmedabad, to appraise and communicate the importance and manner of adopting measures related to energy conservation and efficient practices, under the banner of BEACON and TERI.

REDUCE, REUSE & RECYCLE

The objective of the workshop was to sensitize the students to preserve the endangered species. Skill building to make nests from used shoe boxes. The workshop was a different and unique learning experience for the students.

GREEN AHMEDABAD CAMPAIGN


The Times of India group along with Gujarat Ecology Commission has chosen our school as one of the four nodal schools of Ahmedabad, for GREEN AHMEDABAD campaign. Under this campaign, we organized a TREE PLANTATION ceremony in our school campus on August 09, 2012. In all 25 trees were planted by the core team of Green School Drive.

Utilization of Waste Land VEGETABLE - HERB GARDEN

A barren land transformed into a vegetable garden (also known as a vegetable patch or vegetable plot) is a garden that exists to grow vegetables and other plants useful for human consumption, in contrast to a flower garden that exists for aesthetic purposes.

Green apparels are to be worn on Wednesday to support green school drive. The school mascot Yali goes green posters were put up in the buses & campus.

Energy conservation week was celebrated from 14th Dec to 28th Dec since last 3 years
Visual Aids Posters and banners are put up.

Assembly A talk is delivered on energy conservation.


Competitions Paragraph writing and poster making are conducted. A movie on global warming is shown. A skit is performed by the students as an Inter House activity with the theme No Plastic.

Cuttings from magazines and newspapers related to environmental issues are displayed on Rolling Boards.

Green Soldiers [students] deliver a talk in different classes to motivate other students to understand the need to conserve electricity and water.
A regular checklist is made to survey about the leaking taps and switching off of the lights when not required.

Green badges are distributed to the teachers and staff related to Earth Hour Bulk SMS are sent to parents about Earth Hour.

THE EARTH HOUR!


DPS, Bopal was an active participant of the Earth Hour, as a part of the Green School Drive since last four years, as all the staff members including the supporting staff, drivers and conductors, the administrative staff, along with the students by switching off their nonessential lights and other appliance for one hour to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change. Bulk SMS's were sent to all as a reminder.

THE GLOBAL APPROACH THE SUMMIT AT CALIFORNIA


Two students from DPS, Bopal, went to Los Angeles, California, for a summit on Plastic Pollution organized by Algalita Marine Research Institute as a part of Green School Drive to present a Project on Marine Pollution Plastics are Forever International Youth Summit MARCH1113, 2011 at Long Beach, CA, hosted by Algalita Marine Research Foundation

Role Model:
As a part of our Green School drive we at DPS Bopal welcome our guest with a sapling signifying our endeavors to protect and sustain the environment. The green school drive comprises of a team of students and teachers who pick up environmental problems in and outside the campus and evolve possible solutions through activities, researches, visits and workshops.
Recycling of Paper is been carried out quarterly in the school. The data this year shows a great improvement in the consumption of paper which has reduced to 70% as most of the data related to academics is uploaded on the school portal which can be accessed by the students, parents as well as the teachers. Spreading Awareness
Workshop on Global Leadership @ DPS Bopal, Conducted by the Green Contributors. Mr. George Koshy, Founder-Director-Green Contributor and Mr. Peter Paul Phillips, Global Consultant and Transition Coach. A leadership Series Workshop based on the Transition Framework of William Bridges, as part of Professional Development program to help Teachers & Global Educators sustain the transformations among students & communities, they work tirelessly to achieve was conducted at DPS Bopal, to mark 5th September, 2011 a memorable day in a true sense.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle- Kalayatan 2011


An interschool art and craft competition was organized by the DPS, Bopal, Ahmedabad on August 6, 2011, in which 108 students from12 schools participated to showcase their creative best on the above theme. Judges Mr. Gorana and Mr. Panchal have been actively working with children on environmental issues. The participants were divided into four groups- group A (classes 1-2), group B (classes 3-5), group C (classes 6-8) and group D (classes 9-10). And a maximum of 10 students could participate from each school.

Meaningful Usage Recycled Paper


The Recycled paper is done through Two agencies VANRAKSHA & WOW. Our school utilizes the recycled paper in making cards for special occasions. This year we are using the recycled paper in the form of A -4 size paper.

Poetry Competition
A poetry contest was conducted on 30th June 2011, for creating awareness about environmental protection. The poem should convey a strong message to conserve our environment. The poem should be original.

Canada Day Celebrated


To celebrate Canada Day -1st July 2011 in India, Manitoba

trade & investment India office organizes a tree


plantation campaign. 1000 trees will be planted by 500 school & college students. Each student will own & adopt 1 or 2 plants & take care of the plant. The trees will be named after the name of the student. Regular health

checkup of plants will be done every 3 months & at that


time students too will be invited to the health checkup.
