Why is introduction important?


It is the hardest of the speech. It stimulates our audiences attention right from the beginning of the speech. It gives our audience the first impression of us as a speaker. Try our best to create a positive first impression.

Catching the listeners interest

Give our listeners a good reason to listen to you Ask the audience Use the story to illustrate our main point Open our speech with a startling fact or statistic

Creating a good rapport with the audience


Talk to the audience directly Identify a common experience Ask the audience questions

Narrowing the focus of your topic

(1)As college students, we have probably all needed help with our studies at one time or another; and may be some of us have been able to help others, too.(2) In my case, I helped my friend with their math and my friend helped me with my English. (3)Eventually, I realized helping others beside my friend with math and could even get paid for it.(4) Now, if you have a strong background in one of your school subjects, such as math or chemistry, you might consider becoming a tutor- that is, you might get a job helping others learn one of these subject. (5) Then, of course, you would want to be as effective a tutor as possible.(6) So, how can you become an effective tutor? Well, you must know your subject matter, you have to figure out your tutees strengths and weaknesses, and you need to support and encourage your tutee.

Persuading Others: Solving a Problem


Grab the audiences interest at the beginning of the speech.
