CULTIVATION PRACTICES
REGIONS CULTIVATED IN INDIA: Amla is grown as an orchard crop in

several parts of our country. The crop has wide adaptability and can be found in diverse climatic and soil conditions ranging from the western and eastern himalayas,arawalli ranges,vindhya and western ghats.

Amla has been successfully

raised in arid,semi-arid,coastal and warm temperature conditions Intensive cultivation is being done in the salt-affected districts of U.P,agra etc; The cultivation is spreading rapidly in the semi-arid regions of MAHARASTRA,A.P U.P tops in area,production and productivity followed by gujarat and tamilnadu

CLIMATE AND SOIL


SUITABILITY-suited for

being raised in wasteland as well as arid,semiarid,salt affected areas. CLIMATE-a mature plant can withstand a temperature variation b/n 46degree cent.during hot summer to freezing temp.as low as zero degree c during winters. SOIL-saline,alkaline & degraded soils.

coconut gives yield of 40kg/acre/year. YIELD-3-4 tonnes/ha. EXPORTS-about 500010,000kg/month of fruit are exported from T.N to SINGAPORE & MALAYSIA.

MEDICINAL-Amlafruit

is rich in vit-C and pectin. Ayurvedic restorative tonic called CHAYAVAN PRASH. COSMETICS-hair tonic.

Amla pulp is rich in vit

C,and hence used as natural ingredient in preparation of juices. Fruit are used in making preserves and pickles,several ayurvedic medicinal preparations,hairwash powders,hair oils. Fruit and bark is also used in tanning of leather by the village tanners.

amla berries which have been soaked in coconut oil for several days in order to extract the oil soluble vitamins from the fruit. The filtered and purified oil is commonly called AMLA OIL.

AYURVEDIC FORMULATIONS-AN IMPORTANT APPLICATION SECTOR


Amla is a critical component of
triphala ,a known ayurvedic formulation used as laxative and treating biliousness. INCREASING DEMAND IN HAIR TONIC: Amla oil used as an aid in improving the health of hair and scalp. The dried fruit is a detergent and is used as a shampoo.

WASTELAND DEVELOPMENT
AMLA is an ideal crop

for wasteland development. Drought resistant crop. Good alternative wasteland crop apart from sapota,mango,acid lime &sweet oranges.

DEMAND
Pectin decreases serum
cholesterol in human beings.it inhibits platelets aggregation and lowers cholesterol levels. Amla tonic has a haematinic and lipalytic function useful in scurvy and jaundice,prevents indigestion and controls acidity as well as it is a natural source of anti-ageing.
