Definition

records by traditional (paper-based) and electronic means Incorporates all the data needed by policy makers, clinicians and health service users to improve and protect population health Helps decision makers to detect and control emerging and endemic health problems, monitor progress towards health goals, and promote equity;

Why HMIS
Difficulty in integration of patient records and

hospital activities affected quality of health care services adversely Difficulty in getting Real time information regarding the outbreak of epidemics. Need for an integrated tool for timely monitoring of services. Lack of timely information resulting in inefficient utilization of resource. Necessity for effective tool for health policy making.

India Impact on the level of automation of medical care in the region high Various big hospitals planning to expand because of proper infrastructure Over half the hospitals (55 percent) belong to the Mission/Trust NGO category Nearly 40 percent privately owned 1000 hospitals in Gujarat having more than 50 beds, out of which, 300 are multispecialty hospital and around 70 hospitals have more than 100 beds.

Family Welfare, Govt. of Gujarat Objective : To ensure the quality health using Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as the tool to provide standard clinical and diagnostic tools, hospital management tools and integration of management information at the state level to ensure online review and monitoring Aim : Management of vital patient records, analysis of critical data so as to provide an updated planning and policy tool towards provision of quality health service
