Buoyage Recognition

Safe Water Mark


Indicates safe water all round the buoy May be used as a mid channel, landfall or centreline buoy White light Occulting, Isophase, long flash 10secs or morse A

EAST Cardinal Mark


Indicates safe water is to the east of the mark White light Very Quick (VQ) 3 every 5secs OR Quick (Q) 3 every 10secs

Region A Port Hand Buoy


Red light
Any rhythm EXCEPT 2+1

Region A Preferred Channel To Port


Green Light Group Flash 2 + 1

Region A Starboard Hand Buoy


Green light Any rhythm EXCEPT 2 + 1

Special Mark
Yellow Light Any rhythm not used for a white light

South Cardinal Mark


Safe water lies to the south of the buoy White light Quick (Q) 6 + long flash every 15secs Very Quick (VQ) 6 + long flash every 10secs

Region B Starboard Hand Buoy


Red light Any rhythm EXCEPT 2 + 1

Isolated Danger Mark Danger of limited horizontal extent with safe water allround the buoy
