HINDU Architecture

There are many beautiful Hindu monuments such as Halebid, Gharapuri etc. Entrance(vihara), alter and garbh gruha are the main sections of a temple. Intricate carvings and pillars containing decorative tendrils and robes are noticeable features of Hindu architecture.

JAIN Architecture

One of the famous Jain architectures is the Delwara temple situated on mount Abu, Rajasthan. The temple dates back to 11th and 12th century A.D. Delwara temples are a composite cluster of 5 temples.

BUDDHIST Architecture
Most significant Buddhist architecture, is the Sanchi stup, located in Madhya Pradesh, Sanchi. The monument dates back to 3rd century BC to 12th century AD. This was originally built by Mauryan Emperor, Ashoka.

ISLAMIC Architecture
The first Islamic architecture in India is the Qutub complex, built by Qutubud-din Aibak, in 1192AD. Whereas, the last Islamic architectural wonder is the Tajmahal, by Shahajahan. High domes, mosque, tomb, mihrab facing Mecca, open courtyard and minarets are main features of an Islamic monument.

FESTIVALS OF INDIA
HOLI
Holi is the most colourful festival of the Hindus and falls on the Full moon day. Holi heralds the arrival of Spring - the season of hope and new beginnings and marks the rekindling of the spirit of life.

GANESH CHATHURTI
The Ganesh festival is on the 4th day of the bright half of Bhadrapad (September). This festival is celebrated for 10 days from Ganeshchaturthi to Anantchaturdashi the final 10th day of his immersion

He is considered to be the god of wisdom, prudence and prosperity.

DASSERA
The festival of Dassera, also known as Vijayadashmi, is one of the fascinating festivals of India and is celebrated with joy and enthusiasm. It is the tenth day of navaratri. It is in honor of Godess Durga.

DIWALI

It is the festival of lights. Deepavali Pooja is performed in the evenings when tiny diyas of clay are lit to drive away the shadows of evil spirits.

A HARVEST FESTIVAL OF INDIA

According to the lunar calendar, the sun moves from the Tropic of Cancer to the Tropic of Capricorn, or from Dakshinayana to Uttarayana, in the month of Poush in mid-January. This end of the winter solstice also coincides with the harvest season and cessation of the northeast monsoon in South India. The movement of the earth from one zodiac sign into another is called Sankranti, and is celebrated as Makar, or Uttarayana, Sankranti, or Lohri, in the North, and as Pongal in the South In the South Sankranti becomes Pongal. It is a celebration of the harvest which is observed for three days in Tamil Nadu as well as in Andhra Pradesh. The first day is the Bhogi Pongal which is celebrated as a family festival.
