The Study Smart Guide

STUDY SMART TIPS 1 :

Know yourself: 1. 2. 3. 4. What is your learning style? What is your strength and weaknesses What is YOUR Target? What is YOUR motivation?

Why is it important?
Everyone learn differently, by knowing how you learn the best will help you to determine, where, when and how you study: For example, Ariel is a musical learner, she learned better when she sings or listen to a song when she is studying.

My strength and weaknesses

Find out your best and worst scoring subject for UPSR. This will help you determine what subject should you spend the time most.

Activity 1:
On a piece of paper, write down your last years result. Write down the most problematic area that you faced in each subject. Allocate 2 hours of your time for each areas, add up all the hours you need to study each subject. If you do it right, the subject with the worst score will have more problematic areas and you will need to spend more time on those areas.

Based on this, it is easier for you and your parents to do a study schedule. This will also enable you to set a target for yourself.

Set a target for yourself

After you know your strengths and weaknesses, you can start working on your target. Ask yourself how many As can you get? Never be afraid to set a high target for yourself but you need to be clear on how you can achieve it.

How to help yourself reach a target?

Test yourself with past years papers/forecast papers. Write down your target on the front page of the paper. Try to do the paper without any help, just like in the examination (but first, try to do some revision!). Ask your parents/teachers to check the answer for you. Compare your target with your score. Re-read the questions and do revision on questions that are wrong. Re-do the papers again and see how you improved.

What is your motivation?

Ask yourself why is it important for me to do well in the UPSR examination?

Learning strategies
How to learn better: 1. Always starts with a prayer. 2. Find a memory trigger : Associate what you are reading with a memorable thing, for example: the smell you like or the music you are listening to during that time. 3. Study in small chunks, study a topic one at a time to make it easier to remember. 4. Clear your mind before studying, make sure that your body and your mind is relaxed before you study. 5. Drink a lot of water when you study, this will helps your brain to be refreshed.

Try to study early in the morning, right after you have your morning bath because scientist proved that this is the time the brain is most active. Dont forget to have your breakfast before you go to school. Start your day with protein rich breakfast such as fresh milk and eggs to help stimulate your brain. Dont push yourself too hard, if you are sleepy or tired in class, make an excuse to go to the toilet and take a brief walk.

Organised your study topics. You will find it easier to learn if your topics are related to each other. Dont just study, have fun! ( but limit your time ) Be a smart note taker. Dont be afraid to ask!
