COURSE : FP104 COMPUTER HARDWARE INSTRUCTIONAL DURATION : 15 WEEKS CREADIT(S) :2 PRE REQUISITIES : NONE

SYNOPSIS
COMPUTER HARDWARE course gives students a basic overview of the hardware and software that will be utilised in Information Processing. This course is the study of personal computer PC hardware including PC assembly and upgrading, and installing connecting peripherals. Students will learn hardware troubleshooting techniques used to identify and rectify computer faults.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this course, student should be able to:

1. Acquire knowledge of computer technology, computer hardware and computer maintenance and troubleshooting competently that comply to computing standards. 2.Install computer hardware, devices and peripherals efficiently by applying the safety precautions and procedures suggested by OSHA. 3. Propose technical upgrading of computing system to accommodate changes is technology and to optimize the system performances as required by IEEE Standards.

Upon completion of this course, student should be able to:

Computer?
A computer is a programmable machine designed to sequentially and automatically carry out a sequence of arithmetic or logical operations. The particular sequence of operations can be changed readily, allowing the computer to solve more than one kind of problem

It was in 1937 that John V. Atanasoff devised the first digital electronic computer. Atanasoff and Clifford Berry came up with the ABC prototype in the November of 1939. Its computations were based on a vacuum tube and it used regenerative capacitor memory.
