The Early Stages Of Pop.


Pop is a very successful genre of music within the music industry and is listened to by a variety of different demographics. Pop originated at its earliest during the 1950s and has been developing rapidly since day. The definition for Pop has similarly differed incredibly as it was originally short for popular music however in the current days the definition is being more specified to a particular individual genre that isnt particularly popular however follows its unique style.

Definition For Pop


There are many varietys of different definitions for the term pop which include: Music of general appeal to teenagers; a bland watered-down version of rock'n'roll with more rhythm and harmony and an emphasis on romantic love. Pop music (a term that originally derives from an abbreviation of "popular") is usually understood to be commercially recorded music, often oriented towards a youth market, usually consisting of relatively short, simple love songs utilizing technological innovations to produce new variations.

Summary Of Genre
Typically most pop music videos currently last for 3-4 minuets long and have a tendency to include both a narrative and performance based story line. Similarly pop videos usually contain a chorus, verse, bridge etc within the lyrics of the chosen song. The theme of pop concentrates on simplicity whereby focusing on love and relationships as it is an easy subject for the intended audience to relate to. Therefore this is beneficial for the genre as it can grab the attention of the audience quicker as they are able to use their personal identity within the lyrics.

Pop music was firstly dominated by the American music industry ranging from the mid 1060s, however the British culture and popularity allowed the industry to develop into an international interest, however stuck to mainly the British and American audience interest. Typical characteristics of the typical pop music genre consist of: -aiming to appeal to a general audience instead of a particular culture or audience whom share a particular specified interest. -an emphasis on recording production and technology instead of focusing purely on live performances. -lastly a tendency to relate and reflect existing trends instead of current and potential developing ones.
