LECTURE METHOD

Lecture is a teaching method where an instructor is the central focus of information transfer. The basic purpose of lecturing is the dissemination of information. Students are expected to take notes while listening to the lecture. Usually, very little exchange occurs between the instructor and the students during a lecture.

PROS OF LECTURE AS A TEACHING METHOD:

Lectures are a straightforward way to impart knowledge to students quickly. Instructors also have a greater control over what is being taught in the classroom because they are the sole source of information. Students who are auditory learners find that lectures appeal to their learning style.

PROS OF LECTURE AS A TEACHING METHOD: (CONT.)

Logistically, a lecture is often easier to create than other methods of instruction. Lecture is a method familiar to most teachers because it was typically the way they were taught. Because most college courses are lecturebased, students gain experience in this predominant instructional delivery method.

CONS OF LECTURE AS A TEACHING METHOD:

Students strong in learning styles other than auditory learning will have a harder time being engaged by lectures. Students who are weak in note-taking skills will have trouble understanding what they should remember from lectures.

Students can find lectures boring causing them to lose interest.

CONS OF LECTURE AS A TEACHING METHOD: (CONT.)

Students may not feel that they are able to ask questions as they arise during lectures. Teachers may not get a real feel for how much students are understanding because there is not that much opportunity for exchanges during lectures.

QUESTION AND ANSWER METHOD

Asking and answering questions is a form of active learning that has a place within any classroom format. Questions asked by the instructor can involve students more fully in a lecture, leading to deeper understanding of course material.

Questions asked by students offer an opportunity to clarify material and they also provide feedback for the instructor.

GOALS
Stimulate analytical thought Diagnose student difficulties Determine progress toward specific goals Motivate students Clarify and expand concepts Encourage new appreciation and attitudes- 30 Encourage the application of concepts To arouse interest and curiosity To focus attention on an issue Promote thought and understanding of ideas Manage or remind students of a procedure Relate cause to effect Encourage student selfevaluation

Advantage:

Disadvantage:

The Class are more active because students do not just listen but are participative in the discussion Giving students the chance to ask the teacher to know things that have not been understood by the students Teachers can find out until where the students ability receive everything that explained.

If there are different opinions ,it will take and require long time Conversation sometimes deviate from the subject when asking questions, although there are still relationship with the subject being discussed. Can inhibit the way of thinking if the teacher is not good at presenting the material
