What

is strawble construction What are the advantages of it Why only strawble construction What are the materials used in it How it is constructed Why not in india Conclusion

It

is the building method that uses bales of straw(commonly wheat, rice, rye and oats straw)as structural elements, building insulations or both this method is commonly used in natural building

This

method is proved to be the sustainable method of construction in building. Renewable nature of straw Very fast construction time Easy availability Naturally fire retardants and high insulation value Very economical way of construction Resists extreme heat and cold condition

These

sort of constructions are invented a century ago by the pioneers of the sand hills of nebraska found them selves a new life on trees. From the necessity began building their homes from bales of straw So they found it is easy way to construct their buildings with straws which is a easy available material

Straws
Small

of wheat, rice, rye and oats

amount of sand and cement some times coved with lime stucco or metal for the frame work

Wood And

roof top os provided with a fully coved materials

The

agricultural waste products in many parts of the world is simply burnt in the fields.
million tones which goes up in smoke every year causes a great deal of air pollution. turn into energy efficient resource

The

They

Normally

strawbale building typically consists of staking rows of bales on a raised footing or foundation with a moisture barrier or capillary break between the bales and the supporting platform

There

are two types of strawbales commonly used those bond together with two strings those with three strings.
wall are tied together with pins of bamboo, rebar, or wood or with the surfaces wire mesh.

Bale

Then

they are stuccoed or plastered either with a cement based mix or lime based formulations or earth/clay render. bales actually provide the structural support for the buildings(load building) bale assembly also can be designed to provide lateral and shear support for the wind and sesmic loads(earthquake loads)

The

Plastered

And

it can also have a structural frame of lumber of timber-frame with simply serving as an insulation and plaster substrate.

In

wet climates the imperative for applying a vapor-permeable finish precludes the use of cement based stucco commonly used on load bearing walls.

The

inclusion of skeletal framework of wood or metal allows the erection of roof prior to rising of bale, which can protect the bale wall during the construction it is most vulnerable to water damage in all but in most dependently arid climates. A combination of framing and load bearing techniques may also be employed, referred to as hybrid strawbale construction

When

Field

bales are created on the farms with bailing machine. But in recent days high density precompressed bales(bale blocks)are increasing the load that may support.

As

the wall is constructed by placing along the frames then cement coating is provided on top of it

The

cement coating is done with the help of cement pumping machines and a layer of 20 to 25mm this on the either side of the wall
then it is painted.

And

These

walls look like a normal brick wall construction but the only difference in both is the load carrying capacity of the wall

Field

bales can support 900kg per liner meter of wall

But

high density bales bear up to 6000kg per liner meter of wall

These

sort of constructions are mostly constructed in the areas where there is chance of earthquake effects. Like japan, sotha frica etc

In

india we adopted a conventional way of constructing buildings with (sand, cement and steel)
India is a tropical country where the temperature are comparatively high so there are more chance of fire problems. Although they are fire resistant.
