The Royal Psalms

Royal psalms are psalms that talk about the Davidic king and his kingdom. They reminded the Israelites of their place in the world and the task that God had called them to. They describe the ideal King or Anointed One (Messiah)

Psalm 2
1. The Nations Attack Psalm 2:1-3 (NIV) Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the Lord and against his Anointed One. Let us break their chains, they say, and throw off their fetters.

2. The Lords Reaction

Psalm 2:4-6 (NIV) The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them. Then he rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath, saying, I have installed my King on Zion, my holy hill.

3. The Kings Confidence Psalm 2:7-9 (NIV) I will proclaim the decree of the Lord: He said to me, You are my Son; today I have become your Father. Ask of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession. You will rule them with an iron scepter; you will dash them to pieces like pottery.

4. The Nations Response Psalm 2:10-12 (NIV) Therefore, you kings, be wise; be warned, you rulers of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry and you be destroyed in your way, for his wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

The Royal Psalms & Israel

Reminded Israelites of their place and Gods purpose for their lives. Showed the kings & the people the ideals that they should be living up to. They were like royal robes placed on the kingthis was how he was supposed to be.

Like the Israelites, we live under a Davidic King (Jesus) who will one day return to rule the earth. We will reign with Him (Rev. 5:10) We must live as His subjects & servants

Matthew 6:33 (NIV) But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Stop worrying about yourself. Ask yourself these questions: 1. What is Gods plan for the world? 2. How can I let Him use me in it?

The Bottom Line

A life of worship is a life that is subject to the King. Are you being a loyal servant & subject of King Jesus?
