Meaning of counselling
A person who solve the problems

To help in the proper choices of courses

Definition of counselling

counselling as provision of advice or guidance in decision-making, in particularly in emotionally significant situations. Counsellors help their clients by counselling them. Counsellors also help clients explore and understand their worlds and so discover better ways of thinking and living.

Concept of counselling

An ideal entry level for students with little or no prior counselling experience or knowledge. This qualification is easy to administer for centres and has sufficient academic rigour to make it worthwhile and meaningful for students.

Purpose of student counselling To help the student work out a plan for solving his difficulties. To help the know himself better his interest abilities aptitudes and opportunities

Who should be counselling Students who have a consistent record of under achievement. Students whose scholastic achievement drops suddenly. Students who need financial aid in order to continue their studies.

Methods The counselling method is a term to explain the intended emphasis of your counselling session. Both method and techniques will aid a leader in the counselling role. The method a counsellor chooses may be either direct approach (counselor-centered) or indirect approach (counselee-cantered) although a combination of both is often appropriate

Different counselling techniques (approaches) There techniques are used for counselling. These are divided on the basis of the nature of the counselling process and the part of counselling.
1) Directive or prescriptive counsellor centred

counselling.
2) Non-directive or permissive of client-centred

counselling.

Directive approach
Directive counselling is concerned with

the individual total development cross life stage and environment it seek to help the client stop irrational non-productive thinking and behaviour and to provide him with rational decision making skills

Directive or Counsellor-centered Steps Involved

Analysis :Collecting information from sources &

understanding the counselee. Synthesis :Summarising & organizing the data so that they reveal the counsellees assets, liabilities, adjustments & maladjustments. Diagnosis :Formulating conclusions regarding the nature and the cause of the problems exhibited by the counselee. Prognosis :Predicting the future development of the counselee's problems. Counselling :Counsellor taking steps with the counselee to bring about adjustment and readjustment for the counselee. Follow-Up :Helping the counselee with the new problems or with recurrence of the original problem and determining the effectiveness of the counselling provided to him.

Non-directive Non _directive counselling is devoid of techniques that involve doing something to or for the client .it is the experiential relationship not on intellectualizing about the clients anxieties or affairs .its major strength authority power responsibilities and inner strength.

Type of counselling
There are two type of counselling 1) Individual 2) Group

Individual Counselling
Individual Counselling is a collaborative process in which a confidential relationship is developed between a counsellor and a willing client (student).

Group Counselling Group interactions provide an opportunity to build relationships and receive interpersonal feedback about how we experience one another

individual, families or groups to achieve objectives through: exploration of a problem and its results, examination of attitudes and feeling, consideration of alternative solutions, and decision making for the student.

Counselling in Pakistan Effective vocational training is not possible without proper career counselling of those who enrol in such programs Career counselling and vocational guidance has increasingly been recognized as an important element of employment promotion and efficient labour market practices. Pakistans youth need to be guided to proper vocations and employment opportunities that best exploits their talents.

Matching individuals skills and talents with the job

requirement has now become a complex activity and can no longer be delivered by untrained people. He hoped that the participants would benefit from the training, the first- of- its-kind in Pakistan. Career counselling and vocational guidance has increasingly been recognized as an important element of employment promotion and efficient labour market practices.

Conclusion

Counselling does not have to be a negative eventit is simply your medium to communicate with your folks in order to accomplish an objective. This lesson is designed to give you a framework from which to learnnot to make you a professional counsellor. Although no one can tell you when it will occur, it is important for you to realize your limitations and not try to fix problems you are not qualified to fix. Referring someone to a professional (financial expert or other specialist) is one of the most appropriate actions you could take to assist someone in trouble. With time and practice counselling will become a skill that will serve you and those who serve with you for years to come.
