Early History

Born February 12th, 1809

Was born in Hardin County, KY


By 1816 The Lincolns moved to Indiana Abrahams Mother died when he was just 9 years old.

Honest Abe

Abraham Lincolns nickname Honest Abe came from his honesty and decency as a young man while running his store.

Their is legend that the nickname came from his fairness in officiating cock fights but without proof this is just wives tales.

Beginning of Political Career

On August 4th, 1834, Abe was elected to the Illinois General Assembly. In 1836 Lincoln was reelected, He also received his license to start practicing law. In 1838 Lincoln becomes the Whig party floor leader.

Family Life

In 1842 Abe married his wife Mary Todd 1846 Lincolns first son Edward Baker Lincoln is born 1850 Lincoln has another son William Wallace Lincoln. 1853 Honest Abe has another son Thomas Lincoln Lincoln and his family lived in Illinois for a while but ended up settling down in Washington D.C.

Leading Up To Presidency

In 1856 Lincoln helped to create the new republican party of Illinois.

In 1857 Lincoln speaks against the Dred Scott decision.

Start of a New Career

In 1860 Abraham Lincoln is nominated to presidency for the republican party. Lincoln up winning the presidential race

1861 the Civil War begins


On August 6th, 1861 Lincoln signs a law freeing slaves being used by the confederate army

Lincoln and His Role in the Civil War

Abraham Lincoln played a major role in the civil war, he appointed most of the commanders of the armies. Abraham also was the lead role in freeing slaves during this period.

1864 re-elected as president 1865 Civil war concludes April 11th, 1865 Lincoln makes final speech as president, the speech focused on problems of reconstruction.

Assassination of Lincoln

April 14th, 1865 Lincoln gets shot by John Wilkes Booth

April 15th, 1865 President Lincoln Dies at 7:22 in to morning

Lincolns Goal Came true

After Lincoln passed away, the Thirteenth Amendment to the constitution is passed on January 31st, 1865 Slavery was finally abolished
