What is waiting time in OPD?


Patients waiting time refers to the time from the registration of the patient for appointment with doctor till they enter the doctors chamber. Waiting time also refers to the time from the time the patients exit from the doctor chamber till they get their

report after investigation

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

STUDY AREA:- Heart Station in Fortis Escort Hospital , Amritsar. SAMPLE SIZE:- 120 Patients. STUDY DESIGN:- Observational. TOOLS USED:- Observation , records of the hospital. STUDY DURATION:- 53 days

To determine the flow of patients and the average


time spent in heart station

To determine the factors those are responsible for


high waiting time in the heart station

To recommend appropriate suggestion to optimize


the waiting time in heart station

More than half of the sample are done with their


investigation within the standard time

Stress echo patients takes the most time for investigation


where as echo patients waits for the least amount of time

Peak time is between 11am to 1 pm Problem is due to inadequate staff, improper allocation of
resources

Doctors went for emergency to heart command Generation of reports is a complicated and long procedures. Cardiologist takes time to sign on the report as he manage the
Echo, Stress echo, pacemaker and TMT.

Too many patient on queue


Typing of the reports , getting them signed from the
cardiologist , attaching the report and finally dispatching it at
the report collection desk is all done manually which takes time.

A particular suggestion box has to be place in the heart station Employee should strictly follow FIRST COME FIRST SERVE this will make the patient comfortable Token number system may introduce Patient should come to OPD early Fix number of patients should be consult in a day, this will ensure proper appointment before the visiting thereby reduce the waiting time Doctors should follow their timing of break without delay Staff from other department should give hand during peak time

Staff should utilize the available resources Renovation of the Heart station layout and the location of

the equipment
More facility like TV, background music or religious songs should be made available to comfort them.

Health education by experts in between the waiting time


Proper staff training on time management and coordination should be given Proper timing slot and investigation area for IPD patients has to be allotted
