Name three types of processing. 1. Batch processing 2. Online processing 3. Real-time processing

Give an example for each. 1. OMR or Electric bills (etc.) 2. Booking plane or Ordering goods online 3. Flood warning systems or Auto-pilot systems

Many organization have finance departments

to keep track of money coming into and going out of the business. These are the following ICT systems used in finance departments:

Billing systems Stock control systems Payroll systems.

Used to send bills to customers who will either pay online or

send a cheque back by post with the payment slip. Because of the huge volume of bills that are produced by water, gas, and electricity companies, and other companies such as credit card companies, the processing is highly automated.

Basically, they order more stock when stocks in

industry are running low and pay when delivered.

So, when an item is sold in the PoS (Point of Sale) it

counts one item out of the current number in stock I.e. If I have 10 Iphone 5Ss in stock as soon as one is sold the number of Iphone 5Ss in stock is 9 as soon as I have 2 (APP.) in stock more is ordered automatically and paid on delivery.

Any organization, business have employees that are paid variably according to the number of hours per week, per month. Many places of work automatically record hours worked by the employees using systems such as swipe-cards or fingerprint readers. When an employee arrives at work, they swipe their ID card, and then do the same when they leave.

Data capture, checking and type of processing:

Output from a payroll system:

A printed pay slip (given to the employee to show how

his/her pay was calculated).

A cheque, or an EFT payment directly into the employee's

bank account.

Computers can be used in conjunction with sensors to measure physical quantities such as temperature and pressure. Those quantities are analogue so there must be an analogue to digital converter to change the data to digital as computers processes only digital data. Monitoring: It involves taking readings over time using sensors. Examples of main features are;

The readings are taken automatically. You can set the period over which the monitoring takes place. You can set how often the reading are taken

Sensors: Are used to detect and measure physical quantities. Examples:

Light sensors Temperature sensors Sound sensors Humidity sensors

Advantages: 1. Reading at the right time 2. No human errors or delays 3. Reading taken continuously Disadvantages: 1. Equipment malfunction can cause wrong readings 2. Equipment is expensive 3. Hiring a technician

One of the simplest examples is an application called LOGO.

Basically, it is a turtle that draws precise lines, angles and curves (etc.) according to the given commands.

Another complex example are controlled greenhouses which

uses sensors to detect/ measure the limiting factors of plants and as the result is shown an action us taken.
