English Education vs Spanish Education

After the experience of been on a exchange with teenagers of England we have notice the big differences between the two educational systems of each country. So we are here to explain you what are the differences and what educational system is better.

Spanish educational system

The education system in Spain derives from the LOGSE. Schooling is compulsory between the ages of 6 and 16 years. There are 6 years of compulsory primary education and 4 years of compulsory secondary education. Children are usually 12 when they start secondary school. Below the age of 6 years, schooling is optional and provision will depend on what is available in the area where one chooses to live. It is common to send children to school from about the age of 3 years but starting infants school at this age is not compulsory.

In order to progress from one cycle of education to the next, students in Spanish state schools have to meet teaching, learning objectives and pass exams, so compulsory schooling could last longer than what is the case in England and Wales where all students progress from one year to the next automatically.

Spanish exams are graded with numbers (110)

Academic year and other questions

The academic year runs from September until June, the children start compulsory schooling in the September of the calendar year in which they are 6 years old. In England and Wales children whose birthdays fall between September and December are usually the eldest in the class, but in Spain these children could be the youngest.

Provision of transport

This provision is for those children that go to private schools, and even between these schools is not usual to have this provision of transport.
School meals In Spain children have lunch after the class so theres no need to provide school meals. But some private schools enlarge the timetables, so these schools provide school meals. Installations, Facilities and Uniforms The installations in Spain are smaller than the installations of other countries. The Spanish educational system has a little amount of sport and art facilities. Spanish public schools dont have uniforms. Timetable: 8:00-15:00 (or 14:00) break: 10:45-11:10, 13:00-13:10

English Educational System

The English educational system differs from our system in many things. School in England is compulsory from 5 years to 16 years. From 5 to 10 years children go to primary school, and from 11 to 16 years teens go to secondary school. Children below 5 years go to Kindergarten. So there are 6 years of compulsory primary education and 6 years of compulsory secondary education.

In England all students progress from one year to the next automatically. Students have to attend to class. Secondary students instead of exams they have the GCSE levels, the GCSE are like exams. Students are graded with letters (A,B,C)
