General information about the cotton

Uses
Cotton is used to make a number of textile products. Socks, underwear, and most T-shirts are made from cotton. Bed sheets often are made from cotton.

International trade
The largest producers of cotton are China and India, approximately with annual production of about 34 million bales and 27 million bales, respectively.

The five leading exporters of cotton until 2010 were: the United States, India, Brazil, Australia, and Uzbekistan. The largest nonproducing importers are Korea, Taiwan, Russia, and Japan.
