What is GoToTraining?

GoToTraining is online training software that is used by SPSU faculty to deliver synchronous instruction. SPSU has a custom GoToTraining server to organize and deliver all GoToTraining recordings and support documents.

Use GoToTraining to:


Conduct distance learning Conduct face-to-face campus instruction that may or may not include online students (cross-listing) Capture recorded instruction to share with students via a link

Examples of Use
Virtual Classroom meet online with students otherwise unable to attend a campus course Pre-record Lecture Record your lecture on your computer with an internet connection from home or on the road. Office Hours meet with more students who would otherwise be unable to come to your office during normal office hours.

Guest Lectures Get a guest speaker from almost anywhere to talk to your class without the travel expenses.

How do I get a GoToTraining account?


1. 2. Access link: http://helpdesk.spsu.edu Log in with your SPSU user ID and password (this is the same as your email user ID and password). On the Help Request page, click on the dropdown for Request Type. Select Tech Support (UITS). In the dropdown window that appears on the far right of the Request Type, select Desire 2 Learn / GoToTraining. In the dropdown window below, select GoToTraining Account Request.

1. Access from your browser: http://www.gotomeeting.c om/online/training

At the top right corner of the page, click the Log In button.
On the next screen, enter the Email Address and Password you used when you requested your account from UITS. Click the Log In button.

How is GoToTraining organized?


The GoToTraining setup window is divided into two panels: (a) navigation panel and (b) an action or information panel.

How do I schedule a training session?


1. On the My Trainings page, click on the Schedule a Training button in the action panel. On the Schedule a Training screen, enter the course number and title in the Title: box. Example: ARTS 2101 - Fall 2013

(optional) In the Description: box, enter a description. 4. Using the Occurs drop-down menu, select the course frequency. Once: a single session Weekly: Once a week class session Monthly: Once a month class session

Custom Schedule: Classes that meet more than once a week or irregular sessions.

5. 6. Enter the Start Date, Start Time, End Time. (Optional) Add additional sessions as needed by clicking on Add another session. If necessary, select the Training Time Zone. Depending on the Occurs option, complete additional information as required. Select the Registration Type: Participants register once to attend all sessions. Participants register for individual sessions that theyll attend. 9. Click the Schedule button.

How do I begin a scheduled training session?


1. In the My Trainings pane of the GoToTraining window, click on the Start button next to the training session you wish to begin.

How do I upload training materials?


Option A: Use the Manage Training pane for the training session:

In the My Trainings pane of the GoToTraining window, click on the title of the training session.
In the Manage Training pane, scroll down to the Mange Your Content section. Click on the Edit link next to Materials. In the Materials pane, click on the Add Material button. Select the appropriate source of the material (From Computer, From Library, or Add Link).

How is the Control Panel Organized?


When you begin a GoToTraining session, the Control Panel appears on the right side of your screen. The control panel is organized into 9 panes, each of which can be expanded or collapsed by clicking on the - or + in front of the pane name. Screen Sharing Dashboard Audience View Attendee List Audio Webcam Materials Polls and Tests Chat In addition, there is a bar on the left to use to collapse the panel to the right of the screen.

What type of microphone is recommended?


What microphone/speaker configuration is recommended for best audio quality using VoIP? For optimum audio quality, use an USB headset connected to your computer, or USB headphones and standalone microphone connected to your computer. Analog versions are okay, but not ideal. Webcam microphones are NOT recommended.

It is strongly recommended that you plug in the headset before activating GoToTraining.

3. 4. 5. In the Manage Training action panel, click on the Edit link in the Audio section. In the Audio action panel, select the Use built-in audio conferencing option. Below the Use built-in audio conferencing option, select the check box for VoIP. (Requires microphone and speakers.) Click on the Save button.

NOTE: From the navigation panel, select Settings to specify the default audio settings.

In the Preferences GoToTraining window, click Audio in the Category list on the left side of the window.
Begin speaking into the microphone and verify the meter shows green bars in the Microphone Setup area. Click on the Play Sound button in the Speakers Setup area. Verify the meter shows green bars. Click and drag on the slider to the right of the Play Sound button to adjust the volume. Click the OK button.

How do I test a webcam?

3. In the Webcam pane of the GoToTraining control panel, click on the Webcams button. In the Webcams drop-down list, click on Preferences. Make any necessary changes as needed and then click OK.

How do I mute & unmute participants?

How do I change the presenter?


1. In the Attendees pane of the control panel, use your right mouse button, click on the person to whom you wish to be the presenter. In the pop-up menu, click on Make Presenter. In the Verify Presenter Change GoToTraining dialog box, click on Yes.

How do I share the screen?


1. In the Screen Sharing pane of the control panel, click on the Show My Screen button. (Alternately, this button my display other words, such as Application, depending on the last selection made.) In the Show Only: pop-up menu, click the screen (if you have multiple monitors) or application you wish to share.

How do I pause sharing my screen?

How do I record a training session?


1. First click on the Settings link in the Screen Sharing pane of the control panel to change your recording settings.

How do I end a presentation?


1. 2. At the top right corner of the control panel, click on the close window icon. In the Leave Training or End Training? GoToTraining dialog box, click on End Training for All button. In the End training for everyone? GoToTraining dialog box, click on the Yes button.

How do I save my recorded session?


1. After you end a training session, the Converting Meeting Recording dialog box appears. Wait until conversion is complete.
