What is NCBTS? Why do we need the NCBTS?

How should teachers use the NCBTS? What are the seven domains of good teaching?

What is NCBTS?
Is a set of competencies(behaviors, attitudes and skills) that each teacher must possess to function effectively and satisfactorily.

WHAT DOES COMPETENCY BASED- MEAN?


Means that the standards or criteria for characterizing good teaching are defined in terms of the teachers credential, LET scores, grades in graduate school, degrees, personality traits, and soon, we look at what the teacher can do competently.

Why Do We Need the NCBTS?


Provides a single framework or reference that define effective teaching in all aspects of a teachers professional life & in all phases of teacher development. Minimize confusion about what effective teaching is.

- Provides a better guide for all teacher development programs & projects from the school-level up to the national level.

Who Should Use the NCBTS? Most important, individual teachers in all the public elementary and high schools all over the country shall use the NCBTS for their professional development activities.

How Should Teachers Use the NCBTS?


-As a guide to reflect on their current teaching practices; -As a framework for creating new teaching practices . -As a guidepost for planning for professional development goals. -As a common language for discussing teaching practices with other teachers . -As the guide for thinking critically about whether the teachers current practices are helping students attain the learning goals in the curriculum.

How Does the NCBTS Define Good Teaching? NCBTS has :


-7 Domains- that represents the desired feature of the teaching and learning process. -21Strands - specific dimensions of positive teacher practices under the broad conceptual domain. 80 Performance Indicators - are concrete, observable, and measurable teacher behaviors, actions, habits, actions, routines, and practices known to create, facilitate, and support enhanced student learning.

Domain 1 Social Regard For Learning


Acts as a positive role model for students.

Creates an environment that promotes fairness. Makes the physical environment safe and conducive to learning. Communicates higher learning expectations to each learner. Establishes and maintains consistent standards of learners.

Establishes learning environments that respond to the aspirations of the community

Domain 6 Community Linkages

Communicates promptly and clearly to learners, parents, and superiors about the progress of the learners. Develops and uses a variety of appropriate assessment strategies to monitor and evaluate learning. Monitors regularly and provides feedback on learners understanding of content.

Domain 5 Planning, Assessing and Reporting

Teachers in all Philippine schools are committed and accountable for providing classroom instruction with results that are manifested in high performance levels in terms of student learning outcomes. Teachers are dedicated to the well being of the students and communities they serve, taking into account their cultural diversity, group aspirations and what is valued in education

STATEMENT OF PRINCIPLES
Teachers in all Philippine schools are committed and accountable for providing classroom instruction with results that are manifested in high performance levels in terms of student learning outcomes . Teachers are dedicated to the well being of the students and communities they serve, taking into account their cultural diversity group aspirations and what is valued in education.

National Competency Based Teacher Standards DOMAIN 1 - SOCIAL REGARD FOR LEARNING
Focuses on the ideal that the teachers serve as a positive and powerful role models of the values of the pursuit of learning of different kinds of effort to learn. The teachers action, statements and different types of social interactions with students exemplify this ideal.

Acts as a positive role model for students.

DOMAIN 2- LEARNING ENVIRONMENT


Focuses on importance of providing for a social, psychological, and physical environmental within which all students, regardless of their individual differences in learning, activities and work towards attaining high students of learning.

DOMAIN 3. DIVERSITY OF LEARNERS


Emphasizes on the idea that the teachers can facilitate the learning process in the diverse learners by recognizing and respecting individual differences, then using knowledge about students differences to design diverse sets of learning activities to ensure that all students can attain desired learning goals.

DOMAIN 4- CURRICULUM
Refers to all elements of the teaching learning process that work in convergence to help students understand the curricula goals and objectives, and to attain the high standards of learning defined in the curriculum. These elements include the teachers knowledge of subject matter and the learning process, teaching learning-approaches and activities, instructional materials and learning resources.

Demonstrates mastery of the subject. Communicates clear learning goals for the lessons that are appropriate for the learners. Makes good use of allotted instructional time. Selects teaching method, learning activities and instructional materials or resources appropriate to learners and aligned to the objectives of the lesson. Teacher recognizes general learning processes as well as unique processes of individual learners. Teacher promotes purposive studies. Teacher demonstrates skills in the use of information and Communication Technology in teaching and learning.

DOMAIN 5- PLANNING, ASSESING, and REPORTING


Refers to alignment of assessment and planning activities. In particular the domain focuses on 1. Use of assessment data to plan and revised teaching plans. 2. The integration of assessment procedures in the plan and implementation of teaching-learning activities. 3. Reporting on learners actual achievement and behavior.

DOMAIN 6- COMMUNITY LINKAGES


Refers to the ideal that classroom activities are meaningfully linked to the experiences and aspirations of the students and their homes and communities. Thus, the domain focuses on teachers efforts directed at strengthening the links between schools and communities, particularly as these links helps in the attainment of the particular goals. .. Establishes learning environments that respond to the aspirations of the community

DOMAIN 7 PERSONAL GROWTH and PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT


Emphasizes the ideal that teachers value having a high personal regard for the teaching profession, concern for professional development, and continuous improvement as a teacher. Takes pride in the nobility of teaching as a profession. Builds professional links with colleagues to enrich teaching practice Reflects on the extent of the attainment of professional development goals.

The Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers comprising of a Preamble and 13 Articles spells out how the teacher should relate to the states, the community; the teaching profession itself. The teaching community, higher authorities in the Philippines, school officials, fellow teachers and other personnel, the learners and the parents. It also states how the teachers should conduct himself/herself as a person at all places, at all times including his/her business and financial matters.
