• Air India & Indian Airlines are the only Government own Airlines.

• The both airlines have merged on July 17th 2007 and now they are combined
and Name is “AIR INDIA”. And this was done advertising purpose as a par of
a program to revamp the company image in preparation for an IPO.

• The Economic liberalisation process initiated by the Government of India in the


early 1990s ended Indian Airlines ‘ dominance of India’s domestic air transport
Industry. Indian Airlines faced tough competition from “JET AIRWAYS”,”KING FISHER”,
“SPICE JET”.

• Indian Airlines was the second largest airline in India after “JET AIRWAYS”

• Air Sahara was got by own airlines and now it has merged with jet airways and is called
jet-lite
• jet airways is regular airlines which offers normal economy and business class seats
• Jet airways claims o have one of the youngest fleet in the world
• On January 19th ,2006 jet airways announced to bay Air Sahara for 500$ million but som
the deal didn’t work out
• On 12th April , 2007 jet airways finally bought Air Sahara for 340$ million. The deal will giv
airline a combined domestics markets share of about 32%
• The airline also operates helicopters on non-scheduled
• Jet Airways operates two classes of service - Première and Economy. Première is the

• Air deccan was the 1st low cost carrier in India but now kingfisher airlines has
bought 26% of it and has promised to buy additional 20% of Air Deccan.

• For wear future kingfisher will continue to serve the corporate and business travel
segment while air deccan will focus on servicing the low fare segment but with
improved financial prospects for both carriers.

• kingfishers airlines recently announced a partnership with US based continental


airlines in order to provide better servicing to customer traveling between India and

Indian airlines had o face trough competition from jet airways, air Sahara, east-west
airlines etc

•In entry of several low cost airlines in india like air deccan ,kingfisher and spice jet
continues to give competition in its market facing Indian to cut down air fares.
