Agriculture Effect on Air Pollution

Prepared By : Nurulah Ernesto Bin Kennedy

Agriculture is the science, art and occupation of cultivating the soil, producing crops and raising livestockhttp://www.uri.edu

WHAT IS AGRICULTURE

the cultivation of animals, plants, fungi, and other life forms for food, fiber, biofuel, dr ugs and other products used to sustain and enhance human lifewikipedia.org/wiki/Agricu lture

HISTORY OF AGRICULTURE
Agriculture was developed at least 10,000 years ago. Evidence points to the Fertile Crescent of the Middle East as the site of the earliest planned sowing and harvesting of plants.

Agricultural practices such as irrigation, crop rotation, fertilizers, and pesticides were developed long ago but have made great strides in the past century

Haber-Bosch method for synthesizing ammonium nitrate represented a major breakthrough and allowed crop yields to overcome previous constraints.

recent years there has been a backlash against the external environmental effects of conventional agriculture, resulting in the organic movement.

Air pollution is contamination of the indoor or outdoor environment by any chemical, physical or biological agent that modifies the natural characteristics of the atmosphere - WHO

AIR POLLUTION

the introduction into the atmosphere of chemicals , particulates, or biological materials that cause discomfort, disease, or death to humans, damage other living organisms such as food crops, or damage the natural environment or built environment - wikipedia

SOURCES OF AIR POLLUTION

AGRICULTURAL SOURCES OF POLLUTION

Methane

Burning of agricultural waste

Nitrous oxide emissions from agricultural land

AGRICULTURE EFFECTS
Released of methane - Greenhouse effect - increase in the global temperature rise in sea levels - change in the amount and pattern of precipitation - probable expansion of subtropical deserts

Burning of agricultural waste - cause smoky conditions and elevated levels of particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10) haze problem
Manufacturing processes of agriculture - use of pesticides and fertilizers - fuel and oil for tractors, equipment - causes emissions of carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide Agriculture logging less rainforest causes less tree to absorb carbon dioxide

CONCLUSION
It is important for us to manage the agricultural carefully and responsibly so that we will acquire the best result for both the environment and human being. We need to practice sustainability in everything we do.
