In the Name of Allah,
Most Gracious, Most Merciful
‘Say ye: “We believe in Allah, and the
revelation given to us, and to
Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and
the Tribes, and that given to Moses
and Jesus, and that given to (all)
Prophets from their Lord: We make
no difference between one and
another of them: And we bow to
Allah (in Islam)”’. (Al Baqarah (2),
v. 136)
In the Name of Allah,
Most Gracious, Most Merciful
‘Say: “I am no bringer of new-
fangled doctrine among the
messengers, nor do I know what will
be done with me or with you. I
follow but that which is revealed to
me by inspiration: I am but a
Warner, open and clear.”’ (Al Ahqaf
(46), v. 9)
In the Name of Allah,
Most Gracious, Most Merciful
‘Nay! He has come with the (very)
Truth, and he confirms (the Message
of) the messengers (before him).’
(Al Saffat (37), v. 37)

‘To thee We sent the Scripture in

truth, confirming the scripture that
came before it, and guarding it in
safety…’ (Al Ma’idah (5), v. 48)
Consumption of Alcohol
‘Then the LORD said to Aaron, “You and your sons
are not to drink wine or other fermented drink
whenever you go into the Tent of Meeting, or you will
die. This is a lasting ordinance for the generations to
come.”’ (Leviticus 10: 8-9)

‘Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler; whoever is led

astray by them is not wise.’
(Proverbs 20: 1)
‘Do not join those who drink too much wine or
gorge themselves on meat, for drunkards and
gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes
them in rags.’ (Proverbs 23: 20-21)
What does Islam say…?

‘O ye who believe! Intoxicants and

gambling, (dedication of) stones, and
(divination by) arrows, are an
abomination of Satan’s handiwork;
eschew such (abomination), that ye
may prosper.’ (Al Ma’idah (5) v. 90)
Dietary Laws
‘The pig is also unclean; although it has a
split hoof, it does not chew the cud. You
are not to eat their meat or touch their
carcasses.’ (Deuteronomy 14: 8)

“Do not eat any meat with the blood still

in it”. (Leviticus 19: 26)

“Do not eat anything you find already

dead”. (Deuteronomy 14: 21)
What does Islam say…?
‘He has only forbidden you dead
meat, and blood, and the flesh of
swine, and that on which any other
name has been invoked besides that
of Allah…’ (Al Baqarah (2) v. 173)
Prohibition of Usury
“If you lend money to one of my people
among you who is needy, do not be like a
moneylender; charge him no interest.”
(Exodus 22: 25, Deuteronomy 23: 19)

‘LORD, who may dwell in your sanctuary?

Who may live on your holy hill? … he who
lends money without usury… he who does
these things will never be shaken.’
(Psalm 15: 1-4)
What does Islam say…?
‘Those who devour usury will not
stand except as stands one whom the
Evil One by his touch has driven to
madness. That is because they say:
“Trade is like usury”. But Allah has
permitted trade and forbidden
usury…’ (Al Baqarah (2) v. 275)
Ruling on Circumcision
‘Then God said to Abraham, “…every
male among you shall be circumcised.
You are to undergo circumcision, and it
will be the sign of the covenant
between me and you… My covenant in
your flesh is to be an everlasting
covenant.’ (Genesis 17: 3)

‘On the eighth day, when it was time to

circumcise him, he was named Jesus,
the name the angel had given him
before he had been conceived.’ (Luke 2:
21)
What does Islam say…?
Narrated by Abu Huraira:
Allah's Apostle (pbuh) said, "Five
practices are characteristics of the
Fitrah: circumcision, shaving the
pubic region, clipping the nails and
cutting the moustaches short."
(Al Bukhari Volume 7, Book 72,
Number 777)
Greetings of Peace
‘While they were still talking about this,
Jesus himself stood among them and said
to them, “Peace be with you.”’ (Luke 24:
36)
What does Islam say…?
‘When those come to thee who believe in
Our signs, Say: “Peace be on you: Your
Lord hath inscribed for Himself (the rule
of) mercy: verily, if any of you did evil in
ignorance, and thereafter repented, and
amend (his conduct), lo! He is Oft-
forgiving, Most Merciful.”’ (Al An’aam (6),
v. 54)
If God Wills…
‘Now listen, you who say, “Today or
tomorrow we will go to this or that
city, spend a year there, carry on
business and make money”. Why,
you do not even know what will
happen tomorrow. What is your
life? You are a mist that appears for
a little while and then vanishes.
Instead, you ought to say, “If it is
the Lord’s will, we will live and do
this or that.”’
(James 4: 13-15)
What does Islam say…?

‘Nor say of anything, “I shall be sure

to do so and so tomorrow” – without
adding, “So please Allah!” (Sura Al
Kahf (18), v. 23-24)
Call for Prayer
‘The LORD said to Moses: “Make
two trumpets of hammered
silver, and use them for calling
the community together and for
having the camps set out. When
both are sounded, the whole
community is to assemble before
you at the entrance to the Tent
of Meeting.’ (Numbers 10: 1-3)
What does Islam say…?
Ibn Umar reported: When the Muslims
came to Medina, they gathered and
sought to know the time of prayer but no
one summoned them. One day they
discussed the matter, and some of them
said: Use something like the bell of the
Christians and some of them said: Use
horn like that of the Jews. Umar said:
Why may not a man be appointed who
should call (people) to prayer? The
Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: O Bilal,
get up and summon (the people) to
prayer. (Muslim, Book 004, Number
0735)
Removing ones shoes
“Do not come any closer,” God said.
“Take off your sandals, for the place
where you are standing is holy
ground.” (Exodus 3: 5, Acts 7: 33)
What does Islam say…?

‘But when he came to the fire, a voice was

heard: “O Moses! Verily I am your Lord!
Therefore (in My presence) put off your shoes:
for you are in the sacred valley of Tuwa.”’ (Ta-
ha (20), v. 11-12)
Ablution
‘…and Moses and Aaron and his sons used it to
wash their hands and feet. They washed whenever
they entered the Tent of Meeting or approached
the altar, as the LORD commanded Moses.’
(Exodus 40: 31-32)
What does Islam say…?
‘O ye who believe! When ye prepare
for prayer, wash your faces, and
your hands (and arms) to the
elbows; rub your heads (with
water); and (wash) your feet to the
ankles...’ (Al Ma’idah (5), v. 6 )
Direction of Prayer
‘…he (Daniel) went home to his upstairs room
where the windows opened toward Jerusalem.
Three times a day he got down on his knees
and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as
he had done before.’ (Daniel 6: 10)
What does Islam say…?
‘We see the turning of your face (for guidance)
to the heavens; now shall We turn you to a
Qiblah that shall please you. Turn then your
face in the direction of the Sacred Mosque:
wherever you are, turn your faces in that
direction…’
(Al Baqarah (2), v. 144)
Bowing in Prayer
‘When Abraham’s servant heard what
they said, he bowed down to the
ground before the LORD.’ (Genesis 24:
52)
‘… Elijah climbed to the top of Carmel,
bent down to the ground and put his
face between his knees.’ (1 Kings 18:
42)
‘Then they bowed down and
worshipped the LORD with their faces
to the ground.’ (Nehemiah 8: 6)
Prostration in Prayer
‘Moses and Aaron went from the assembly
to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting and
fell facedown, and the glory of the LORD
appeared to them.’ (Numbers 20: 6)
‘Then Joshua fell facedown to the ground
in reverence,…’ (Joshua 5: 14)
‘Going a little farther, he (Jesus) fell with
his face to the ground and prayed…’
(Matthew 26: 39)
What does Islam say…?
‘O ye who believe! Bow down,
prostrate yourselves, and adore
your Lord; and do good; that ye may
prosper.’ (Al Hajj (22), v. 77)
Abu Huraira reported: The
Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: The
nearest a servant comes to his Lord
is when he is prostrating himself, so
make supplication (in this state).
(Muslim, Book 004, Number 0979)
Manner of Supplication
‘When Solomon had finished all these
prayers and supplications to the LORD, he
rose from before the altar of the LORD,
where he had been kneeling with his hands
spread out toward heaven.’ (1 Kings 8: 54)

‘Ezra praised the LORD, the great God; and

all the people lifted their hands and
responded, “Amen! Amen!” (Nehemiah 8:
6)
What does Islam say…?
Abu Dawood (1486) narrated from
Malik ibn Yasaar (may Allah be
pleased with him) that the
Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said:
“When you ask of Allah, ask of Him
with the palms of your hands, not
with the backs of them.”
