Textco BioSoftware (formerly Textco, Inc.

), has been

developing high quality productivity tools for molecular biologists for over 25 years. Our unwavering commitment to customer service, and our focus on quality has generated a loyal customer following. Since 1984, we have provided solutions to scientists who are breaking new ground in genetic engineering, basic biology research, drug development, and biotechnology - at academic, government, and corporate institutions in more than 50 countries worldwide.

Textco BioSoftware's Principals

Robert H. Gross, Ph.D., President - Dr. Gross is co-

founder and President of Textco BioSoftware and serves to validate and drive the direction of product development. He received a B.E.S. in Engineering Sciences and an M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Troy, New York), and a Ph.D. in Biophysics from Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, Maryland).

Gene Construction Kit

The Gene Construction Kit (GCK) program has been the preferred

plasmid mapping software of leading researchers for more than 20 years. GCK allows easy manipulation of DNA sequences, either graphically or as sequence text - quickly saving users both time and money. GCK eliminates tedious examination of DNA sequence data by automatically identifying open reading frames (ORF's), keeping track of sticky ends during cutting and pasting of restriction enzyme digestion fragments, assisting with PCR primer design, and enabling comprehensive annotation of DNA sequence features. This DNA analysis software allows multiple files to be opened and displayed simultaneously, allowing DNA sequences to easily be copied and pasted between plasmids and vectors to represent real-world DNA cloning protocols. The Gene Construction Kit software is available for both Windows and Macintosh users, and files can be shared across platforms allowing for easy collaboration. The interface and set of functions in GCK will significantly enhance laboratory productivity and minimize experimental design errors - saving users both time and money.

Sophisticated Restriction Site Analysis

Gene Construction Kit provides users with lists containing all known restriction enzymes with which to work, while also providing lists containing only commercial enzymes or enzymes sorted by recognition sequence lengths. Users can choose to mark enzyme sites by how many times they cut a sequence, by the kind of cut they create (5', 3', blunt), or even by whether or not they cut within a specified segment. One can even generate a table output of 'No cutters' for a specific selection of DNA. This flexibility allows sophisticated searching - such as marking all unique blunt end cutters that cut only within a selected segment of DNA; or - marking all enzymes that cut more than 5 times, but only cut outside a selected segment.

Integrated Project Management

A unique, and very useful

feature in GCK is called 'Chronography.' This feature allows a user to keep track of construct history as well as to store different views of the same sequence in a single file. Although one will be seeing different graphics on screen, there is only a single sequence in each construct file. Users can create up to 32,000 generations for any construct - making it virtually limitless.
