Family Planning Services

Family Planning advice to eligible couples Prescription and supply of Condoms and Oral Pills to eligible couples Insertion and removal of IUCD/ C-T including follow-up Dispensing of Injectable Referral of Contraceptive Surgery Clients to RHS Centers

Community Involvement
Established community Committees names as Friends of FWCs/ Welfare Committees Welfare Committees comprises of Lady Councilors, satisfied clients, teachers, community workers, NGOs, CBOs Committee facilitates and support working of FWC

It refers client and acts as a bridge between FWC and community DDPWO (C&T) provides orientation to the members on the concept of the committee in community mobilization and community development Arrange social activities like baby show, WPD activities etc. Friends of FWC meets once in a month Minutes circulates among members and goes to DPWO

Linkages with Health/ PLDs/ NGOs

Each FWC maintains a list of service delivery outlets including Health, PLDs and NGOs Detail of services/ facilities available there Keeps continues liaison to refer clients for services vice versa

MOBILE SERVICE UNIT (MSU)

Each MSU serves a population of 30,000 in a Tehsil of 5,000 couples (15-20 villages) by camping 10-12 times in a month. MSU works under the supervision of WMO / FTO. MSU have been provided new vehicle, made of Master Mini Truck Each MSU vehicles equips with Primary Health Care including full range of Family Planning (except contraceptive surgery), especially IUD insertion

OBJECTIVE OF MSU CAMPS

To make Family Planning information and services accessible in underserved / un-served rural communities. To reduce the unmet need of FP by making services more accessible, particularly the clinical methods including IUCD and injectable To provide RH Services to women To facilitate the work of Male Mobilizers to enhance mens role. To interact with the elected councilors and other opinion leaders for promoting better RH services

STRATEGY FOR HOLDING CAMPS

The exact location of MSU and its catchments areas in terms of UCs based on geographical condition of the village of the communities. To avoid duplication, camps are not arranged where FWCs, BHUs and RHCs are working. Each MSU displays map of its area showing villages for camps. Local notable person / women invites to support and participate in camp activities and he / she certifies each camp. Each MSU prepares 3 months advance tour / camping program and circulates to FWC / RHS-A, LHWs, TBAs & Male Mobilizers for proper motivation. MSU keeps proper record and sends to DPWO each month

MSU VEHICLES

MSU Vehicle is built on Master Foreland Mini Truck with canopy fabricated of fiber Canopy equips with basic clinical equipments and airconditioner Vehicle has heavy duty electric generator to operate vehicles air-conditioner and other equipments Each vehicle has two tents of parachute, attached with vehicle One tent is for waiting / registration and other for counseling / general ailment treatment. IEC Material also provides in each camp. Desert Coolers are provided for tents

Responsibilities of RHS-A Training Centers


Impart training (basic and refresher) to program and nonprogram Doctors (NGO, TGI, PLD) in contraceptive surgery techniques

IPC Norplant Insertion/ removal techniques Asepsis / infection prevention MIS Provision of CRHSP

Identification of difficult surgical cases and to be able to deal with surgical problem assessment and diagnosis of abnormal obstetric / gynecological problems Diagnosis / management of infertility cases Impart training (basic & refresher) of program and non-program paramedics in theatre management and other techniques with particular emphasis on Asepsis / infection prevention

Undertaken the FP/Health education program at educational institution and PLDs Hold orientation workshops for Doctors and paramedics for all categories to update knowledge of what is available for the clients in the way of contraceptive services On job technical monitoring / supervision and guidance of RHS-A Centers Pay supervisory visits to RHS-A Centers Evaluate different training activities including seminars and workshops / meeting carried out by the Training Centers

CONTRACEPTIVE SURGERY

All the female contraceptive surgery cases are performed by Tubeligation /Minilaparotomy procedure For male CS, No-scalpel Vasectomy (NSV) techniques is preferred Male Medical Officer, RHS-A Naushehro Feroze performs NSV cases NSV camps are also arranged and FWA (Male) and Male Mobilizer

EXTENSION CAMPS

To ensure availability of CS services on a wider scale and to improve upon performance the RHS Centers will hold extension camp at appropriately equipped THQ Hospitals/ Rural Health Centers/ Basic Health Units as per following criteria:-

INFORMATION, EDUCATION & COMMUNICATION (IEC)


- Information, Education and communication component, launches motivational campaign through TV, Radio, Press, Printed Material and through interpersonal communication. - Officers of high caliber are specifically trained for delivering presentations in schools and colleges for senior students on Demography and on Population Policies. - Hoardings at the places where traffic flow is on the high side. - Messages through Bus Panels which is widely used for publicity

Electronics Media
In modern information technology Radio and TV play an important role in behavioral change, through these mediums departments has broadcast and telecast programs, Drama, Commercials, spots in Sindhi and Urdu languages. In addition CCTV, Karachi Airport also utilized for spots/ commercials on certain event like 14th August, World Population Day, Womens Day, Mothers Day, telecasting spots of Family Planning is the regular activity

Press Publicity
Press is an integral 4th pillar of the society and its importance could not be ignored although the literacy rate is below. The department has availed opportunity by releasing advertisements on National and International events on regular basis. The Journalists and media practitioners are always involved in all interpersonal activities as to aware the masses towards efforts taken by the government in health and population welfare sectors

On different topics and different events the department has procured and distributed thousands and thousands of leaflets, brochures, posters, banners, etc. To visualize Family Planning Outlets, Indication / Signboards are procured and installed. For providing information to eligible couples IEC material is distributed and it is available in all service outlets.
Audio cassettes for newly married couples are developed, the same to be distributed through Nikah Registrar's.

Printing & Production of Motivational Material

Interpersonal Communications
Face to face communication is most effective channel in delivering a message and for behavioral change. The department has always given importance and conducted Seminars, Conventions, Workshops etc. at different level, on different national international events keeping in view the importance the secretary of the department and senior officers have themselves attended these activities even in remote areas and heard the views and recommendations of local representatives, which helped in reformulating program implementation strategies.

Community Involvement
Since Population Welfare is community participation program, the department in recognition of the importance of local CBOs has involved Satisfied Clients, Contraceptive users, Teachers, Doctors, Homeopaths, Hakeems and Friends of Family Welfare Centers. Recently the department has arranged the gatherings at each FWC for encouraging healthy baby and healthy mother by giving then prizes on meeting. All community members and Lady Councilors have played effective participation.

Religious leaders are specifically targeted to be oriented about the Population Welfare Program and remove the misconceptions and rumors. They are involved to deliver message in their Khutbas.
