WHAT IS 4G ?
4g stands for fourth generation which is the wireless system covering wide area coverage

Successor of 3g and 2g generation standards which describes higher version of communication.

Provides a comprehensive IP solution where voice, data and streamed multimedia can be provided to users on an "Anytime, Anywhere" basis.

It is already established in U.S.A and in India it is likely to make head way around 2013

WHATS NEW IN 4G ?
Mobile speed - 200 Km/hr Data rate - 20 mbps Higher bandwidths about 2 8 GHz Entirely packet switched networks Gives world wide roaming to access cell anywhere Tight network security

Working of 4G

A mobile internet network uses a tower, similar to a cell phone tower, instead of a router to receive a broadband signal. It then distributes that signal throughout the airways, however unlike a router; the signal is much stronger and can therefore travel much longer distances.

Support for interactive multimedia,
voice, streaming video, Internet, and other broadband services IP based mobile system-High speed, high capacity, and low cost per bit. global access, service portability, and scalable mobile services. Seamless switching and Quality of Services Better spectral efficiency Data is transferred at high rates Better security features

Disadvantages
Expensive and hard to implement Battery usage is more Need to complicated hard ware.

Applications

Live Mobile Video

Navigation with augmented reality

Portable Gaming

Devices using 4G

Conclusion
There is a need for next generation of wireless technology i.e. 4G which will be a platform for seamless technology providing widespread coverage ,band width and power consumption with higher data rates .
